I'm going to a wedding. Can also use the suit for job interviews and formal parties.
I need a suit (is a "sport jacket" the same thing?). I prefer black. Need suit and tie (bow-tie or regular?)
Help me out! I have no fashion sense.

I believe a sports jacket is a suit-like jacket, but without the matching pants (ie suit = jacket and pants).
Bow-tie is probably too formal, a nice tie should do.
If you want to be incredibly dapper wear a colored shirt (ie not white) and a complimenting tie.
Does that help?
Just go to a men's store, spin around while pointing your finger, and buy the thing you are pointing to when you stop. It's very simple.
CapnHook is there anything you can do in your life, on your own without help from anyone on this board? I mean haircuts, suits, loaning you $10. I mean c'mon dude.

In NY go to Daffy's. Cheap and there is bound to be something. Just avoid the Euro-trash racks. Go to the Ameri-trash section.
Fashion rule #1: it is very very difficult to screw up black.
My black "suit" is actually black khaki slacks and a black sport jacket that I got at a tag sale for $5. It is low end Armani, but the outfit works.

Marquise you took the words right out of my mouth! What sort of suit-buying advice can anyone give a person over the internet? Go to a store and witehr buy what you like or ask a well-dressed salesperson to suggest something.
I anxiously await the "How do I wipe myself?" thread.
Problem solved. Next...
