Hott, in a square-jawed, super-hero, white-bread kind of way.

I have always thought him SUPER HOT...since I first saw him on THE TUDORS...his nude scene was DVR'd and replayed and replayed...LOL...Seriously,I am hoping this re-boot nails it.
He is too beautiful.
Cavill is perfect casting. I just wish Snyder wasn't going to make another superhero adaptation. But I guess this one will offer him less of a chance to show his homophobia and misogyny.

Directed by Zack Snyder -- the film will be an abomination. Wait for the inevitable youtube compliations of Cavill's body shots, otherwise this is a film to avoid like the flu.

I agree with Roscoe. As a die hard Superman fan, this film looks awful. I HATE the costume.
Giving this a chance even though Snyder lost me completely with Sucker Punch.
Also, and I know I am in the minority, I find the Donner films (or film and a half) to be a bore despite finding Reeve, Kidder, and Hackman all charming.
For me this does look like it took a lot from the Grant Morrison comics (if you think Superman is a boring character, please, read these) in that this character has an edge that does not feel shoe-horned in. That and I very much approve of Michael Shannon as Zod and think Amy Adams as Lois is good casting. But like Eric, hopefully this will just stand to be a Superman movie, and that maybe Snyder even knows his indulgences, that were still present in material he clearly took seriously like in Watchmen, cannot seep through in this. It might also help if he has a stronger cast (which he had in the Dawn of the Dead remake and only had maybe just half of the cast of Watchmen up to snuff).
Strummer--I loved Morrison's take on the character. Do you trust Snyder to do anything similar?
I don't like the costume either, but I love Henry Cavill.
Eric- I think the angry young man with an identity crisis is the direction of the movie, which for me Morrison was the writer who heightened that awareness of the character while also going a little dark. Plus, I like hearing that he is going to get a little beat up and flustered. That said, I hope that whole bearded fisherman phase is brief.
I love the costume and Henry Cavill. The movie looks amazing and something (finally) different with the Man of Steel. Can't wait to see it.

Okay, I'll take my life in my hands ask it: we need another iteration of Superman because...?

The new trailer looks epic!

Because we can't leave the Bryan Singer turd "Superman Returns" as his final film outing. ...Even if Zac Snyder sucks at coherent storytelling, the action will be amazing in this movie, and that's what Superman has been lacking for far too long. He needs to become "cool" again.

Or put more simply, superhero movies are bigger than ever, DC has had less overall success (the Batman films notwithstanding) than Marvel and wants to exploit their best known properties, obviously they think Superman can make a huge profit, etc, etc

So it looks like they've turned Superman into yet another neurotic basket case a la Bruce Wayne -- the ChristopherNolanization of American Pop Culture continues.
Superman's greatest weakness isn't kyrponite - it's his love for humanity. Every person he cannot save weighs heavily on his heart and soul. His dual-identity has always been a struggle for him - especially before Lois found out. Is he Clark or is he Superman? Which is the disguise? Is he human or is he Kryptonian?
These struggles date back to before Nolan.

Maybe, but this Christopher Nolan produced Zack Snyder directed thing is the first to bring it all to the screen in full DARK KNIGHT GLOOM mode.
Who knows. It is after all just a trailer. But the involvement of GLOOM-MEISTER Nolan and irredeemable scum-hack Snyder ensures I'll be staying far far away.
Superman was never dark. Superman represents hope. This new 'Man of Steel' film lookslike a typical Hollywood video game. Action, destruction, and so on. Even the costume looks dirty and soiled.Do we even see Clark Kent in this film?
There was a great Superman documentary that came out in 2006. I highly recommend it.

This new film is aimed at 13 year old boys and as much as I love Superman, I just can not get excited about it.I'm sure it will do well but this IMO does not look like a Superman film. It looks like yet another Hollywood CGI fest action film

Well, the movie comes out this Friday, and Rotten Tomatoes has a score of 69% (as of 6/11/13) which isn't great, but it isn't terrible news either. The score may go up, but I'm guessing it will stay around the 70 to 75% fresh at best.

Oh golly gosh I sure hope they spend a TON AND A HALF of time on Superman's origins. It's something that has never been covered. I would like to know, where did he come from? Some other planet or something? Also, here is something that would be cool to explore for once: what was he like growing up?!
I hope there's a very, verrrrrrry long time with the movie going on and on and on before we see him in his Superman uniform. I want to forget it's a Superman movie, I want to find myself asking, "What is this movie I'm seeing, again?" Also, I hope the bad guy is General Zod. It's about time SOMEBODY brings General Zod to the big screen, don't you think?
That's all I ask for: a fun popcorn movie that tells a story that has scarcely been told. And I know it's asking too much, but I sure as hell hope it's gloomy and doomy!
I'm still excited...but hesitant to get my hopes up TOO much. I just want to see a Superman film that has the balls to step away from Donner's vision. I would have preferred Brainiac over Zod, but by the heavens I am just thrilled that Lex Luthor is not the villain again.
"Superman was never dark. Superman represents hope."
Grant Morrison and Alan Moore would both like a word, romantico.

Is everybody else praying for fight scenes that are impossible to follow? Maybe with a lot of simulated hand-held camera work that's really good CGI? I know I am.
