Henry Cavill in that suit. That's really all I need.

That's why they mustn't let you see it until an hour and ten minutes into the movie. It's the showbiz way, I learned it in Gypsy.
Does he look like Jim Carrey or is it my imagination?

Don't be ridiculous, you don't have an imagination.
(I thought that was where the success of all his songs existed?)
So I give some of my probably-slightly-unfair-hatred for Snyder kudos that he apparently let Clark Kent keep some chest hair.
Out of curiosity - has anyone else here read " The Last Days of Krypton"?
I saw it tonight and the film has amazing special effects, and editing. I also loved Henry Cavill. He is the sexiest man I have ever seen. STUNNING. The man could make a brown paper bag look sexy.

He gave you heart murmurs, didn't he?
I'm wondering what is amazing about the editing?

What's amazing about the editing is that it wasn't done in Snyder's typical slow-mo – speed-up – slow-mo style. It's pretty straight-forward. I'm just hoping the mostly hand-held shots wouldn't look as clunky as they did in Les Mis.

Sounds amazing!
Henry Cavill in his birthday suit. That's really all I need.
Cavill is dreamy. I even sat through The Cold Light of Day just to watch him. *sigh*
I'm glad we are all in agreement that Henry Cavill is one fine piece of a$$, thighs, wings, legs, breast and otherwise.
I think that his suit looks like it was made form the same material the Catwoman costume I bought online for $35 dollars. That is not something a costume film that costs millions of dollars should remind anyone of.

Now I want to see your picture in the Catwoman suit
That photo will stay locked deep in my catacombs for years to come.

C+ from The AV Club: "...focuses almost exclusively on the DC Comics icon’s alien backstory."
Ohhhh hoooray! You all know how much I have been clamoring for this! We all get to finally here the origin story!!!

I was sort of worried I had named my son a dorky name until Henry Cavill came along.

I'm sure your son's psyched to be named Cavill now.
Early reviews are calling his performance on par with the title. "More posing than acting."
Ah, Zack Snyder does it again!

People seem to be hoping that the film will be funny like the Marvel movies or even the Donner films. What about the trailers for this film made them think that? Just because its a comic book movie doesn't mean it can't have a serious story to tell. Many of the best comic book stories have serious tones.

while the movie doesn't need to have lots of one liners or jokes, it DOES need to have a sense of humor about itself.
why? because no matter how hard you try, comic book movies will always bear the mark of their lowly origins. that is to say, stories meant to cater to the fantasies of prepubescent boys. they are rife with absurd elements. the temptation to use super powers as a plot device is ever present (and ever used). it's not high literature, which is why another common criticism is that the film is PRETENTIOUS. it wants to pretend superman does not fly around in his underwear. sorry, he does.
this is why avengers worked. whedon knew what elements of the film were absurd, and embraced them (and, at times, made fun of them). take thor. there is no reason... NO REASON at all... for a supposedly intelligent alien species to speak in high shakesbeard english and dress in norse armor. and when a giant robot which shoots death rays out of its eyes, even though they are centuries ahead of us in technology, they proceed to attack it with... swords and spears. that is absurd beyond description. but without those elements... it's not thor.
this is what nolan just doesn't get. if he's not a detective, he's not batman.
there was a lot of talk about a justice league offshoot. one wonders what it would have been called. in nolanverse, let me submit the appropriate subtitle would have been WORLD'S GRIMMEST.
He looks super awkward.
Going to see this at midnight tonight. Looks like this is going to be one of those split down the middle receptions from critics/audiences (only 60% fresh on RT at the moment).
I'll wait and reserve judgement on everything (from the plot to the suit) till after I've seen it, but I'll probably enjoy it more since my expectations have been lowered.
As long as his suit doesn't make him move like Frankenstein's monster, I'm ok with the look of it. Almost looks like chainmail armor from a distance.
Why can't Man of Steel be "fun" like this?

I'm seeing this at midnight as well. In regards to "Why do we need another origin story".....here is my answer: The only Superman film that does the origin story is the first Richard Donner one in the 70s. You have a whole generation of kids and teens who have never seen that series and probably won't because it's "old." Us, as well as the critics, grew up on the Christopher Reeve movies so we know all of this stuff. Plus, they are going in a different direction than the Christopher Reeve movies, so it has to set the origin in their vision of Superman. People complained that "Superman Returns" was following the Reeve movies too closely (and not enough action)and now they are saying "Man of Steel" is not following it enough (and has too much action). I am going in tonight to watch the movie fresh and without thinking of the Christopher Reeve movies (which the original and II are amazing, by the way).
