House of Sand and Fog

What an excellent film.
I just finished, and I love Jennifer Connelly.
She is one of my favorite actresses.
But she hasn't exactly picked the best projects recently.

Anyway, who likes, and who hates this movie?

I love depressing movies...anyone else?

Gah.

Loved this film. Shohreh Aghdashloo should have taken home the Academy Award last year for her performance as Nadi, Ben Kingsley's wife. It was a brilliant.

The performance from Sir Ben Kingsley is simply perfection. Listen to the commentary during the big final climax scene, and you'll see why he is an actor's actor.

I heaved in the theatre crying during this movie. I just finished the book, too. The book is amazing, as well.

Yes, Ms. Agdashloo truly was phenomenal.
And Sir Kingsley, of course of course.
I was hugely impressed by Jennifer!!!
Mention her, dammit!

Connelly was great, but I was more impressed with the other performances.

The sobbing parts from Connelly were mainly what got me.
And did anyone else notice how there was no nudity?
Every part of the body that was shown was acceptable by FCC's standars:
-no nipple shown
-no crotch (either)
....
nothing bad.
just bodies.
it was beautiful.

I loved it. All the acting was superb in my opinion.

Agreed, Matt. Shohreh was robbed of an award for this one. Did she even get an Oscar nod? I don't think she did. She did win an ISA for it, though. Which in some cirles is a bigger deal.

Shoreh was indeed robbed. As good as Renee was in Cold Mountain, she will have umpteen other chances to win an Oscar. How many more chances will a 45 year old Iranian woman get? Not that many, I would imagine. Though I see Ms Aghdashloo has been cast on season 4 of 24.

And Nugget, if you liked the film, do yourself a favour and read the book. It is so so so so so so so so SO much better.

I liked this movie.
Ben Kingsley is the man.
Jennifer Connelly was very good and deserved the Oscar she got for A Beautiful Mind.

Has she ever done nudity?

I'm shocked that a man of your calibre doesn't know whether Jennifer Connelly has done nudity or not, Rodney.

Take it any way you please, Rodney.

What is so scary BG2? The fact that she's female?

I was only just telling someone yesterday how much I enjoyed that movie. It has to be one of the most upsetting movies I have seen in a long time. I was a mess... I was watching it on a flight and I was not a pretty sight afterwards re: House of Sand and Fog People turned around to see where all the sobbing was coming from.

Very sad movie.

Touchme, she was indeed nominated for an Academy Award last year for that role.

And if you want to see Connelly in the buff I would suggest renting a little film called REQUIEM FOR A DREAM.

I just cued-up REQUIEM FOR A DREAM on Netflix. It has a lot of good reviews there.

It's a great film. Extremely disturbing and dark, but well worth seeing if you have a strong stomach.

Waaaay overdirected and predictable. IN THE BEDROOM was a similar tragedy and much, much better. Sorry, guys.

Borstal, you're comparing REQUIEM TO A DREAM to IN THE BEDROOM? Seriously? Don't get me wrong, BEDROOM was one of the best movies of 2001, but it was in no way similar to REQUIEM.

Yeah, Borstal, what ARE the similarities there? And while I agree that Requiem IS overdirected to within an inch of its life, it really couldn't be more different to In The Bedroom.

And while I am at it, Matt why have you even seen In The Bedroom. It has that bitch you hate in it.

I saw it because Sissy was in it and Sissy can do no wrong. And Marisa deserved her Oscar nomination that year because it was a brave and excellent performance from one of the nastiest most disgusting human beings ever spawned on the face of this planet.
