Whether one copies and pastes or paraphrases is not the point CK is trying to make. In both kinds of posting, the poster is referencing talking points (if indeed they are). And to say that one party's talking points is not valid, but that another's is would be a double standard. So, I agree with CK on that.
You could argue that Rove's talking points are lies and that Dean or whoever's are truths, but you can't discredit them as a point of reference if you yourself use that same point of reference.
Republicans use the "All politicians do that" selectively: only when a Republican is doing something wrong.
If a Democrat is caught doing something wrong, it's all about the "Democrat" party's failings.
I posted that list of quotes to show the hypocrisy in the GOP's questioning the patriotism of those who refuse to support's the president's unjust and ill-conducted war. If Cyndy Sheehan is unpatriotic now, then Sean Hannity and Governor George Bush of Texas were unpatriotic then.
I stand by my cut-and-paste posts: They are meant to entertain and lift the spirits of progressive theater lovers on this board. They seem to fulfill that purpose. As they do not violate the rules of the board, I will continue to post them.
I look forward to your informative posts, myself.
Thank you!
I would never suggest that you stop posting them. I enjoy them, and the discussions that follow.
However, JRB seems to understand what I'm getting at.
I'm just pointing out people shouldn't debunk their opponents with the "talking points" argument.
As for the "all politicians do that" argument. All political people have uttered those words at some point, regardless of affiliation. That street is CERTAINLY two-way.
Yeah--you must have needed smelling salts after reading my post, CK. LOL
And to clarify what CK said for the newbies, I do not "bristle" at papalovesmambo.
I do not interact with him at all.
I do believe I had a fit of the vapors.

I agree that the aforementioned behavior is hypocritical.
I do seem to notice a difference between Republicans and Democrats, though. After parroting their leaders, Democrats usually use their own words to explain more fully, while Republicans tend to mantra carefully selected phrases. Which may be to the credit of an organized Republican Party which creates these soundbytes. I just think this point deserves a quick mention.
Oh, PJ, you most certainly DO interact with papa even if it's in that passive agressive "i'm not interacting with you" way.
Good grief, the baby mama drama on this board!!
Nope. Not any more. Promised some people I wouldn't and I keep my word.

I agree with this whole heartedly and see it with the Republicans in my own family. Sister: During Bush I. "We only have one president and we all have to stand behind him." During Clinton. "I can't stand him OR his wife and I hope they bring him down. He should be IMPEACHED."
During Clinton. "I think if the President is Democrat there should be Republican majority in the Senate. It keeps thing in balance." Now. She never mentions this, ever.
As soon as I point out something egregious or illegal that BushCo, Inc., has done, if there is nothing she sees as corresponding from the Clinton Administration (the adminsistration that absolves them of all and future sins), she says, "ALL politicians do that. They're ALL crooks."

". . . like someone who changes quotes to read what they'd like them to say rather than what they really say and then attributes them to the author."
And all this time I've kept my mouth shut.
"That is not like you, George."

Well, I think that is where the misunderstanding of my point comes in. I chose the wrong thread to point it out. This is one of the few threads where the first liberal retort wasn't "stop parroting talking points you dirty fascist." Right show, wrong stage. It just so happens this is the thread where the light of hypocrisy shined on the ping-pong match for me.
Here's one Republican who sees through the White House's lies, Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska:
===
But he said the United States risks losing more public support for the conflict amid a rising cost in blood and money.
"The casualties we're taking, the billion dollars a week we're putting in there, the kind of commitment we've got -- we're not going to be able to sustain it," he said.
Iraq and Vietnam still have more differences than similarities, he said, but "there is a parallel emerging."
"The longer we stay in Iraq, the more similarities will start to develop, meaning essentially that we are getting more and more bogged down, taking more and more casualties, more and more heated dissension and debate in the United States," Hagel said.
Hagel also did not back away from comments he made in June to U.S. News & World Report that "the White House is completely disconnected from reality" and "the reality is that we're losing in Iraq."
"It gives me no great pleasure to have said that and to say that now," he said Thursday.
He said the U.S. death toll has continued to rise "at a very significant rate -- more dead, more wounded, less electricity in Iraq, less oil being pumped in Iraq, more insurgent attacks, more insurgents coming across the border, more corruption in the government."
Hagel also challenged Vice President Cheney's assessment:
Hagel mocked Vice President Dick Cheney's assertion in June that the insurgency in Iraq was in its "last throes," saying the U.S. death toll has risen amid insurgent attacks.
"Maybe the vice president can explain the increase in casualties we're taking," the Nebraskan told CNN.
"If that's winning, then he's got a different definition of winning than I do."
On Thursday, Cheney told a veterans group that "Iraq is a critical front in the war on terror, and victory there is critical to the future security of the U.S."

"...the billion dollars a week we're putting in there..."
A phrase worth meditating on.
demonizing "shifts in thinking" is a specious argument. the republicans are trying to position this as a lack of integrity, but it's not.
oh the fun of using someone's own words.
was someone saying something about integrity?
