How evil have American presidents been?

What are you talking about? I attacked nobody.
Now my turn. Attacking people for daring to question Uncle Sam. Expecting us to live like it's 1776. What political party does that sound like? Please tell me.

You literally come on here and say that anyone who doesn't conform to your way of thinking is racist, and dystorying the world.
I guess the off topic board of a Broadway message board is the only place where you can express yourself.
It's sad.
I hope you actually do something with your life other than repeating chronically online talking points.
Because believe whatever point you think you are trying to prove.
It ain't working.

If you're honoring individuals who claimed to own human beings, you're tragically mistaken, and you're very much in line with the White revanchist spirit of Trumpism.

Defending any slave-"owner" is not a defensible position in 2023. It's the unmistakable mark of a White supremacist.

So I guess y'all both agree that all productions of Hamilton need to be immediately closed, and never performed again?
Calling me a white supremacist because I don’t think that George Washington should be taken off of the one dollar bill?
A real evangelical spewing the views of the chronically online. Aren’t as pure as us and our views. We condemn the!

Speaking for myself, no - for at least three reasons:
(1) I think the concept of Hamilton implies a strong critique of the characters involved. I don't come away with any sense that Jefferson or Washington were great people. I do think it's a weakness of the show that it doesn't address slavery more directly.
(2) Even if this weren't the case, speech shouldn't be censored by anyone's fiat, including my own. I wouldn't want the government to shut down even an explicitly White supremacist piece of theater. I trust that its impact would be negligible in a halfway rational society.
(3) Even in the case of properties that we all recognize as White supremacist, or otherwise toxic, there may be some value in watching or studying them (viz. Birth of a Nation or Triumph of the Will).

Let me ask you this: can you honestly not think of quite a few non-slave-"owning" people who deserve it more?

Sure.
My problem is this argument that changing the face of the $1 doesn't fix the problem.
Or even a problem.
George Washington is no longer on our money.
and?
Was this what people asked for? Did the supply housing or healthcare or education?
Or did it make a small sect of people FEEL like they did something?

I respect your point there.
Regarding healthcare, you know we could have been part of the NHS, were it not for... ![]()

I don't remember ever saying that removing George Washington from the dollar bill would solve all the world's problems. Of course it would not. What it would do is send a powerful signal that racism is not okay, is not forgiveable, and will not be forgotten.
A substantial amount of citizens will no longer need to demean their integrity on a daily basis. This is not nothing.
We can work on housing and health too, it is possible to do both.

It's the 20th anniversary of the start of the Iraq War. What unnecessary devastation and tragedy.

Reagan was awful with the AIDS crisis and was secretly known to be anti-LGBT. Was never a fan of Clinton and the Bushes caused such chaos and the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. Thankful for Obama's 8 years. Trump has derailed this country so badly, we need a DEM President long-term to clean up his mess.

Given the fallout from this guy, I'd say no. Dump tried to cause an insurrection and I think I'm dead and watching a bad movie.

Happy 100th birthday to Henry Kissinger. I suppose.
Did he deserve his Nobel prize?
Also, anyone watching The White House Plumbers?

"Was Ford right or wrong to pardon Nixon?"
President Ford may not have been a very good POTUS for 2 years, but he was a very decent man. He thought he was doing the right thing by trying to move pass what he called our "national nightmare" and issued the pardon. Nixon was despised by almost everyone and I really think him having to resign in disgrace was enough punishment.

With all the talk of rigged elections in recent years, how come nobody remembers that LBJ was guilty of this in Texas for 25 years?

It was common knowledge back then that Texas elections were pretty shady. It was a running joke about how many "dead people" voted for LBJ in those years. There were also allegations that JFK's win in 1960 was stolen from Nixon. Let me throw your question back at you, why do you think it was forgotten?

Yes, I've heard about last-minute stuffing of boxes in 1960, organized by JFK's father. I don't know if this true, but I would not be surprised if it is.
I think a lot of this is largely forgotten mostly because of a weak grasp of history in general. Also the mindset of unquestioning idolatry that too many people have. As can be seen on this board, some people accuse of you of being an unpatriotic disgrace if you dare to question these supposed saints.

I always enjoy playing role reversal when it comes to these types of questions. Suppose Nixon had beaten Kennedy and there were suspicions about stuffing the ballot box. I don't think it would have been forgotten because even in 1960 Nixon was not well liked and the media adored JFK.

JFK used his position of power to prey on young women. Hopefully that would not be tolerated today.

So did Bill Clinton and he was still considered a "rock star" by the media and Democrats.
