Any Miyazaki fans? The trailer for his new movie is up at Ain't it cool news. Looks gorgeous. And Christian Bale lends his voice too! http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=19966
all i know is it's based on a WONDERFUL book by Diana Wynne Jones. she writes childrens fantasy just as good (if not better) than J.K. Rowling but gets no recognition!
I did read the book a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. Great fantasy!

Miranda, I'm a fan! :)
Isn't she really famous in England? I remember when I was at camp one year, and I was reading one of the Chrestomanci books and she commented on how she had never read it even though it was quite famous.
Anyways, I'm a big Miyazaki fan and a big Diana Wynne Jones fan, so I'm really excited for this one.
Miyazaki is GOD.
I can't wait for this movie!!!!

MIYAZAKI LOVE!!!!!
Heehee. Someone was talking about this one in my anime club (we were watching "Nausicaa:Valley of the Wind"), and it looks awesome.
"Miyazaki? Enviromental themes? I've never noticed!" *sn*s*
Oh God I LOVE Miyazaki's work. And his movies have been getting some excellent dubbing, IMO.
What's everyone's favorite Miyazaki film?? My personal favorite is Totoro because I grew up watching it. I still love most of the other ones though! :) (I don't like the one about the raccoons though...that was BAD.)
I agree the dubbing is good too. In terms of anime, there's A LOT of bad dubbing out there (basically all the anime you see on TV right now). But, it looks like they really do a good job with Miyazaki ones.
Princess Mononoke is my favorite. The dubbing on his films is inspired. I thought Carol Channing would have made an amazing Sophie for Howl's Moving Castle but I'm sure whoever they picked will be awesome.

I personally like Spirited Away.
And yes- Miyazaki dubs tend to be some of the better ones out there. I wanna get The Cat Returns sometime soon.
teth- Bad dubbing? Tokyo Mew Mew (I'm a sucker for magical girl anime): O.M.G. *cries in corner*
I grew up on Totoro, so <3 to that. But all Miyazaki movies are great ones. Spirited Away was good too.
I LOVE the part in Totoro when the older sister finds the younger sister in the cat bus. I always get teary eyes in that scene.
Fab - Is that the one on Fox?? Well, they always sound unnatural to me. If you compare the dubbing here to the Japanese dub, the Japanese one always sounds a lot more natural and with the right energy at the right parts (even if you don't know what they're saying).

teth- Oh yeah. The new dubs really suck in terms of voice actors. They all sound like they're in their late 20s. The Japanese VAs are far better, by simple comparison
Although- straight to DVD releases and movies (such as Miyazaki, as we've established) tend to get better dubbing.

I saw this movie last night and didn't like it as much as Spirited Away. I thought it lacked the music and magic that made Spirited Away what it was.
PS: I'm thinking if I didn't see Spirited Away, I would've loved Howl's Moving Castle.

I didn't see "Spirited Away" and I really liked "Howl's Moving Castle."
I am not fond of animated films, generally. I turned down two offers to see this film, and finally broke down yesterday afternoon. I'm very glad I did.
Very imaginative animation, solid story; I was engaged for the full two hours.
Includes the fabuous voices of:
Lauren Bacall
Billy Crystal
Blythe Danner
and
Jean Simmons (Yes, Jean Simmons)
I enjoyed it so much I would see it again, and that's saying a lot coming from me regarding an animated film.
In NYC it's playing at Loew's Sony Lincoln Center.

Laputa is still my favorite Miyazaki film, but I haven't managed to see all of them yet. Still working on it.
I haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle yet, but I'm hoping to drive out to Pittsburgh for it with my Miyazaki-loving friend. Only problem is her mom has issues with her driving out long distances with teenagers. So we'll see whenever I get to make the trip. (It's about two hours.)

I LOVE Princess Mononoke...hope I get a chance to see this one!
Captain_Obvious, I don't have much choice where I'm living, considering I'm a college freshman still at home. ^_^; Pittsburgh's a really easy drive, though. Funnily enough, my parents will be moving to NJ right after I start school about a half hour out of the city--so that solves that problem! Too bad I'm the only city person in my family.

Ugh. Want. To. See. MOVIE! >_<
I went to see this movie a few weeks ago. Loved it. Miyazaki is just...genius. I love his work.
