Saw it tonight.
Um...it was a good movie. Really. Definitely Tyler Perry's best by far. It's no masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but it was still pretty strong.
The script has pacing issues and (spoiler?) ties things up in a pretty ribbon a bit too quickly in the end (end spoiler). But it means well. And has the right balance of humor and drama. It's pretty intense at times and sometimes the drama feels a bit overwrought but most of the time, it feels pretty natural and real. This is mostly thanks to a stellar cast.
Taraji P. Henson is one of my favorite actresses working today. She was really wonderful...her character probably seems very 2D on paper but she fleshed the role out into a moving portrait of a woman who has endured so much heartbreak. Hope Olaide Wilson was sensational. One of the strongest young female performers I've seen since Dakota Fanning. Perry's Madea and Joe characters pop up for all of fifteen minutes of the movie and it feels just right for this particular film. It's actually pretty hilarious when they do show up, but it's not gratuitous.
I'm not trying to make this film sound like it's flawless, cause it's not. And I usually don't like Perry's movies. But here he seems to be getting on the right track. I was shocked at how much I liked it, flaws and all. I think it's worth giving a chance...but that's just me.

I DO enjoy Tyler's movies but I was planning on skipping this one because I thought it was going to be a rushed movie being released so close to "Madea... Jail". I guess I will play this one a visit.
I think I'm going to watch the play now.

According to IMDB Tyler is doing his first sequel to his movie "Why Did I Get Married" to be released in April.
Does Madea get a lot of screen time in this movie?
From my first post: Perry's Madea and Joe characters pop up for all of fifteen minutes of the movie and it feels just right for this particular film. It's actually pretty hilarious when they do show up, but it's not gratuitous.
Sorry, I didn't read a lot of the original because it said "spoilers" and didn't want to know anything.
Thanks. :)
I'm not gonna lie...I LOVE Madea movies. She cracks me up.
ooh, I should have put that on the unpopular opinion thread.

I hate the Madea character. What's the appeal?
I have no idea, blue. But everything that comes out of her mouth kills me. Even a 30 second ad will make me laugh. You're in good company, though. I don't think most people like that character.
Oooh, I was hoping for another "black women live to carry the weight of the world's sins on their backs...and then they riiiiise!" movie.

Oh man, most inadvertently accurately hilarious quote about this movie I've seen yet:
"Tyler Perry has a special way of speaking to his audience, and it's unbelievable," David Spitz, Lionsgate's executive vice president and general sales manager, said Sunday...
