Merry Birthday, Jag!!!!
"You have two kinds of shows on Broadway – revivals and the same kind of musicals over and over again, all spectacles. You get your tickets for The Lion King a year in advance, and essentially a family... pass on to their children the idea that that's what the theater is – a spectacular musical you see once a year, a stage version of a movie. It has nothing to do with theater at all. It has to do with seeing what is familiar.... I don't think the theatre will die per se, but it's never going to be what it was.... It's a tourist attraction." Stephen Sondheim

Ah! So I have an audition for Rent on Sunday and I need advice on choosing an audition song. I'm torn between Keys (Marianna) and Come Down Now, both from Passing Strange. Which one?

SAMN, I don't know either of those songs!!
I'm just sitting down with a stack of 75 Christmas cards to address....grrrrrrr. This is one of my least favorite parts of the holidays.

Come Down Now is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I love Keys, too...oh that whole show makes me melt!
I think Come Down Now would be great, SAMN

There was supposed to be this extremely special assembly yesterday at my school (with cheerleaders, marching band, Madrigals, and color guard performing) and all these rumors went around that Barack Obama or Al Gore was coming to our school... almost everyone was certain it was going to be one of them.
But it turned out to be this lady from a foundation who gave a $25,000 reward to my Bio teacher for being one of the best teachers in America. I swear, if it had been any other teacher than my Bio teacher, I'd have been ticked off, but she fully deserved it.

lol Schmerg- I guess a lot of public officials are at your school's disposal given geography so that was definitely possible. At my HS we once had the guy who inspired the movie Rudy. Unfortunately so many kids acted like assholes during the entire assembly, which they always did when it was mandatory, and I felt bad for the guy. I hope your school was more poised despite the 'disappointment'.

Joe Strummer was hot. It's a shame he had to go out in such an unpunk way.
Anyway, welcome strummer! We're happy to have you!

Thanks JAG. And I agree. Strummer is my crush beyond the grave. Followed by James Dean, Layne Staley, and Paul Newman.
