I went into this screening tonight really hoping it wouldn't be an offensive homophobic flick aimed at 10 year olds which, I know now, was silly of me. Looking at the audience around me was a mix of kids from ages 10-15 and your typical Adam Sandler audience with a sprinkling of a few gay men for good measure. This crap starts out showing what a ladies man Sandler's character is so when he "goes gay" you know it can't possibly be because he would EVER have any interest in the same sex. I mean, he can even get twin sisters to make out with each other in public! I lost track of how many times the word "faggot" was used but I knew at one point I'd heard it thrown around one too many times and got up and just left, but not before seeing enough truly tasteless jokes aimed at women, asians, latinos, gay children (because in this film it's the worst crime of all to have a son who would prefer auditioning for PIPPIN than playing football like the old man), gay men, lesbians and transsexuals. I'm sure in the end both Chuck & Larry learn to tollerate the "faggots" they speak of (Sandler in particular) but by halfway through this movie, which I'm sure will make a killing at the box office, this faggot had had enough.

Avoid this one like the plague, guys.

There are actually a few Sandler movies I find quite funny. And as odd as it sounds, I just never expected THIS level of tastelessness from him.

I thought I'd heard that GLAAD had approved this movie. I can't find anything on their site about it other than a generic listing in their queer cinema section which comes with the disclaimer that a listing does not imply GLAAD endorsement. Anyone know more about this? Anyone see it all the way through?

Haven't seen it either, but the early rewiews I read from various trade papers said the film does indeed have a message of tolerance.
I'm sure the movie has a ton of gay slurs, but if the character wasn't a bit homophobic, how could he learn a lesson.
I just hope it's not as pandering and offensive as something like The Birdcage was.

That's the new gay tolerance message movie. 95 minutes of generally touting white straight male culture, then someone gets clonged (hopefully, here, by someone wearing Jon Rubenstein's PIPPIN outfit) and, like, you know, learns that deep down, we're all, like, really the same. I mean, you know, I watched Wizard of Oz as a little dude, too, you know, and I never knew that, like, ruby slippers n's--t means you're gay. I mean, sure, I knew it makes you "gay," but not gay. I still hide my copy of Wizard of Oz behind my copy of Blackhawk Goes Down On--, I mean, Blackhawk Down.

The trailer for this made it look like it was going to be offensive. I have no desire to see this hateful piece of crap and I've enjoyed many of Sandler's movies.

I still have never felt offended by The Birdcage. I think it promotes a positive image of gay families. The son does say after all, "I'm the only one in my fraternity that doesn't come from a broken home." It shows that gay families are just as capable of love and raising a happy, successful, well-adjusted person as a straight family... I mean, look at how the straight family is portrayed. Yikes.

It's just Nathan Lane reinforcing every possible negative gay stereotype that irks me in that movie.
I doubt Chuck and Larry will be any better.
