Unfortunately, that's the way middle America sees gay people. It's up to writers, and ultimately, Hollywood, to write and produce movies that go against these stereotypes.
It sucks that Brokeback Mt made us look like adulterous sex fiends.

Posted: 6/29/07 at 4:40pmThis movie looks so terribly offensive. I have no desire to see it. Yes, we get it, straight white male America. You're okay with the gay guys now, but only if you get to laugh at them.

Posted: 6/29/07 at 4:48pmThe only real problem I had with THE BIRDCAGE is that they didn't give Lane's Albert a moment equivalent to LA CAGE's (the musical) "I Am What I Am" moment. There's never a real moment of Albert forcefully challenging those who are trying to change him. And, come to think of it, there is never really an equivalent to "Song on the Sand", where you really understand the love between the two men.

I have only seen Tv-spots from this film.
I don't think I'd have a problem seeing it (may be) except for the audience that I was sitting with.
If the audience laugh at every gay stereotype, every "faggot" uttered - I would be very uncomfortable knowing the people surrounding me all felt that way.
I dont want to have to relive those High School-like moments. No Thank you.

"If the audience laugh at every gay stereotype, every "faggot" uttered - I would be very uncomfortable knowing the people surrounding me all felt that way."
And I think that was one of my big problems, too. Watching this movie I felt like I personally was being laughed at whenever one of these jokes was told.

Posted: 6/29/07 at 5:06pmthat sucks Jordan. I didn't see Blades of Glory b/c I was afraid I would feel that same way too.

Ha! Excellent question, Craig!!! :)
I actually went because, well, A) It was free and B) I had a few hours to kill before meeting friends for dinner downtown so I thought "what the hell. I don't like to judge things before I see them so I'll give it a shot"
The day before I saw a screening of THE KINGDOM which was one of the BEST movies I've seen so far this year. It should be a definate Oscar contender later this year.

Posted: 6/29/07 at 5:21pmThe whole movie is fun, but there is one moment that is so astoundingly hilarious that, even were the movie homophobic, I would have forgiven it.

Posted: 6/29/07 at 5:22pmBLADES OF GLORY was f*cking hilarious and I was really impressed how they steered away from the obvious gay jokes that could have easily taken up 90% of the script.

After stopping NAPOLEON DYNAMITE five minutes after starting it, I'll never see another John Heder film. That man is so annoying, not to mention ugly. I have the same feelings for him and Zach Braff.
I didn't do my research, and almost flipped when I saw him in JUST LIKE HEAVEN. If I had known he was in it, I wouldn't have watched it. Sad, huh?
(The movie kinda sucked anyway.)
That said, I will not rent BLADES OF GLORY.

And to think, he's not even black!

Posted: 6/29/07 at 5:33pmIt is good to know that Evan hates "ugly" people, too. I was worried his hatred was only focused on black people. I wonder how he would feel about all of his "friends" that he has made on BWW if he saw what they really looked like.

I happened to see Blades of Glory Wednesday night to get into some air conditioning and maybe to have one good chuckle, which is par for the course for mainstream comedy nowadays. I laughed. Out loud. From beginning to end.
I loved that the directors reeled in Will Farrel, if he did his usual run on schtick, they opted to only keep what was hilarious and toss out the rest. Just a lovely little dumb comedy. Oh, and Amy Poehler and Will Arnett? Geniuses. There I said it. It's a nicer word than the one C_O used last night!

Posted: 6/29/07 at 6:22pmblades of glory was depressingly mediocre. i really hope that will arnett gets a movie soon that will showcase the immense talent he showed on ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT in what was possibly one of the greatest comedic performances I've ever seen.

Posted: 6/29/07 at 6:24pmI disagree, C_S. As much as I enjoyed Arrested Development I found Will Arnett to be the most annoying part of the whole series. Funny at times, yes, but still very irritating.
