Robbie--I said the "take it private" comment about kids talking to kids.
I did NOT mean it about adults talking to kids.

Posted: 5/17/07 at 11:36amWe sometimes forget that people are younger than what we think they are. I found out yesterday that a few people that I thought were over 20, were only 15 and 16, which took me by surprise. And yes, we need to watch what we say because sometimes it DOES get a little out of hand. That I agree with!

'Or why not simply take the advice giving to pm.'
If that was to me, I have to admit that I don't really know exactly who or what this is about. I wouldn't know who to address a pm tod. But it's something that comes up every once in a while on this board. We've seen it over and over again. The people that I flagged in my mind as 'creepy' in their affections to younger posters have not posted here (at least under their old screennames) for a while. If it's happening now, it may be (at least in my mind) something done with good or even harmless intentions. I know I was gobsmacked when I found out someone I was being mildly flirty with was under 18. I thought, "Oh ****...could this come back and haunt me?" That's why I felt the need to comment publicly.
ETA: PJ, I didn't really think that's what you meant...but thought it could be construed as such, so I thought I'd comment...just to be safe.

Posted: 5/17/07 at 11:38amI can see it all now. 2008: There will be an MPAA-type system where each thread is either rated 'G,' 'PG,' 'PG-13,' 'R,' or 'NC-17.' If you're smoking while you post a thread, the thread is automatically rated 'R.' There will also be a requirement that to use the message boards you must fax over proof of age.

I know. It's so hard to be brilliant. It's a burden. A cross, if you will.

There is a HUGE difference between soliciting a minor and discussing sex in a an open fashion with a minor--if you're talking about somebody who's trying to get vmlinnie to show him the money, that's something else. But there's nothing wrong with discussing sexuality in a theoretical manner in an open forum--lord knows I've said things that were adult, but hardly inappropriate.
I will again say that if anyone feels that someone has broken the law, they should involve the authorities and not just start a thread.

Let's also not forget the sickest part of this: the fact that some of the so-called "kids" on this board are just sockpuppets of middle-aged men and women with too much time on their hands.
So you've got a middle-aged freak pretending to be a teenager engaging in sexual banter with REAL teenagers and adults who THINK they're talking to teenagers.
I believe that would constitute "CREEPY." No?

no--i mean real authorities--otherwise, all this chatter is just that...
PJ--I really hope you're wrong--anyone who has an online alter ego is crazier and more pathetic than I am and that's just SAD.

And WAS it her bangs??

Posted: 5/17/07 at 12:27pmFor anyone who isn't aware, Sueleen started a thread about this yesterday. Some of the comments certain posters made about it being ok to flirt and talk about sex with underage posters in a non-informative manner got that thread deleted. I worked with 12-18 boys who have been emotionally scarred because they have been sexually abused by adults. Some of the responses to that thread made me very uncomfortable.

seriously. can you have it both ways? or is the marketing department as hypocritical as sueleen? i don't condone the minor/adult thread issue but the mixed message "do as i say, not as i get paid for" is kinda funny, no?

Elphaba, I'm sorry if you misconstrued my post, you can have your backpack back though. What I mean is that a lot of the posters that this thread can apply to ARE the ones who are just here on the offtopics and a majority of what they say is all sex related and I think I care enough about this site that I wouldn't want them to push it and get anything started here. I know this can apply to everyone, but I just get surprised when people push things here and it makes me wonder when a site called BroadwayWorld turned into Sex Talk with Sue Johansen.
And as for the drivel, I find just as much of it, if not more, on the off-topics, a lot of it contributed by you. I don't know what is worse: teenage girls acting as may be expected or older men whining and doing things I'd wish were out of character. Now you may proceed to class.

Um, it IS the off-topic board of BWW--meaning that the topics aren't related to Bway--if you'd prefer not to hear those sorts of comments, it's an easy fix--stay away--I don't ever check out the West End or the Student boards...
And what's wrong with Sex Talk with Sue Johanson? So what if we talk about sex alot--why don't you start all the threads so we know exactly what you want to talk about and we'll all follow your lead...sheesh!
Sex isn't the worst thing you can do to someone--all this hubbub about kids and sex--I understand that sexual predators are a problem but do you really think an earnest, serious, dangerous sex offender would look to BWW for victims? It seems like an awful lot of work for very little return--this site isn't location or age-based, and finding someone to molest would take alot more effort here than almost any other web site. Yes, I'm sure things have been said and offered that shouldn't be said or offered, but if that happened, get the a$$hole banned!
There's no need for gnashing of teeth and public square meetings-this reeks of sexual hysteria and I think the human race has far exceeded its quota on that. Get rid of the offender and let us talk about what we like--sex, drugs and Esther Rolle!
