OK. Somebody PLEASE help me make sense of all this.

The collective community has identified one or more posters that it has decided is/are "trolls". Suspicions abound as to how many distinct people are responsible for posts by said "trolls".

The theory is put forward, and widely (?) endorsed that the person or persons responsible for the troll-ish posts are, in fact, on the payroll of the message board--as the business model of the message board is one in which more posts = more hits = more dollars--and that their mission is to generate traffic.

In what rational universe, then, do you all derive satisfaction from this constant engagement--taunting, abusing, baiting etc.--of this/these person/people?

If the troll-as-traffic-generating-device Theory is correct, then the endless, abusive postings--not to mention the recent trend of entire threads dedicated to discussion/abuse of the troll/trolls--are so much gravy to the poster, no?

ETA: In fact--if the T.A.T-g.D.T. is correct, then each and every one of your abusive, taunting, baiting etc. posts and threads may ***literally***be putting money in the pocket of your (probably fictional) Nemesis.

In a very short period of time, I realized that the poster in question simply wasn't real. Just...not a real person. Why would I bother talking to it if it's not real?

And not that I should engage this new poster but, for the record, I received that label only by working from my home office and becoming far too distracted with the Board. I do not claim to be a true "legend."
