Melts in your ears like butter.
Why they aren't considering her for Eliza in this proposed remake of My Fair Lady, rather than Kiera Knightley, is beyond me.
Well, to be fair, we've never heard Keira Knightley sing. She might be really good. And then there's the fact that she really is English. But yeah... I'm still kinda doubtful about her for that role...
I think Anne Hathaway has a beautiful voice, though I have to admit she sounds slightly strained on "If I Could Only Dream This World Away" from "The Woman In White." I love her version of "Somebody To Love" from Ella Enchanted, though... I find myself watching that on Youtube over and over again...
Well, I wasn't limiting it to just a singing voice, because neither can compare with Julie Andrews. I meant the overall package. Looks, singing, acting, charm, etc. Plus Hathaway doesn't look like she belongs in an eating disorders clinic.
Believe me, I'm on your side. I was just trying to rationalize why they were considering her for the role.

Wow! She's almost... tolerable. Reminds me of junior high choir auditions. She would get in, sure, but probably wouldn't have gotten the 8th grade solo.
EDIT: And I'm really tired of little girl voices that can barely hold pitch being called "wonderful singers."
No. They ain't.
Sure, she'll be cast in musicals and so will Anne Hathaway (who is marginally better than Knightly), because they're movie stars. But neither are "wonderful singers." For that (on film), look to Andrews, Streisand, Garland... hell, even Catherine Zeta-Jones, who could sing rings around these two little chickpea ingenues.
I love me some Anne Hathaway, particularly as a person...but after seeing her onstage (charming!) and hearing her on youtube, I feel her voice is a little thin for Eliza. My opinion.
It is, doodle. But Knightly's is even thinner.
Can't anybody really SING anymore? I don't mean "whine on key" loudly, I mean SING.
True. But I still think they can make more of a silk purse out of Hathaway's sow's ear. It's not like it has to be performed 8 shows per week or anything. I also hear Clooney is the front-runner for Higgins!

I do love me some Anne Hathaway. As far as actresses who sing (or "sing," haha), I also really like Emmy Rossum.
NO, besty, no...
Actually, I remember Anne on Letterman or something speaking about her singing. She sang a bit of an art song and everyone was all "wooo!" and she claimed that she was NOT a singer, but did win a spot on her state chorus (NJ) or something.
She's a great kid...almost makes up for the Lohans, etc.
She was actually PERFECT for Carnival.
I somehow get the feeling this one ain't gonna get made.
I honestly think that if a film of Wicked is made in the next 2-3 years, Hathaway will be the gal to beat for Elphaba. (no joke)
As you say, there's enough there to work with. That doesn't make her a brilliant singer, it just means she can do it (on film and with lots of takes and help in a recording studio). And because she is physically right for the part and could act the hell out of it AND sell tickets, I really think she'll get the part.

She's a singing actress. And I'm not knocking that for one minute!
But I would never go as far as to call her a "wonderful singer."
EDIT: And that whole George Clooney faux fight with Brad Pitt was hilarious! And a JOKE. I don't think you'll be seeing/hearing him as Higgins in any My Fair Lady remake.
How about Clooney for Higgins, Pitt for Pickering and Mark Wahlberg for Freddy?
Totally.
And Bette Midler for Mrs. Higgins!
Nick Nolte for Alfred Doolittle!
Naw, Tom Waits for Alfred!
Gary Busey would have been my choice for Doolittle.
