I'm getting my tooth capped today. Does it hurt? Advice?- Page 3

And if you think a couple of hours is a big waste of your time, then why not just STFU and live with the broken tooth?

What part didn't make sense? Broke my tooth, went to the dentist, got it fixed, may need to go back on a later date so she can finish the job and see how it is healing. This really isn't complicated..

Turns out I didn't really have anything to worry about. For the most part it was a painless procedure. This thread helped calm my nerves before going in. Had never broken a tooth before.

I believe N2N Nate. He broke his front tooth. 95% of the time when a patient fractures a front tooth it is not crowned on the first appointment if the fracture does not go through the nerve. The dentist will generally numb the tooth so air doesn't make the fractured area more sensitive and then bond a tooth colored composite restoration which replaces the missing part of the tooth. It takes about 30 minutes. It is easy on the tooth and you don't have to irritate the nerve by doing much drilling

If the tooth acts normally for a few weeks, you can then crown the tooth. Most of the time the patient lives with the bond which can sometimes last years.

Matching one porcelain front tooth to a natural tooth is one of the most esthetically difficult jobs in dentistry. Usually a good bond done well looks better.

Since the tooth broke off, the nerves were exposed. Every time I breathed in air in a cold place it would set off the exposed nerves causing me lots of pain. When I tried to eat, the food would touch the nerves in my tooth and cause the nerves to react. It hurt to much to eat. Sleeping was a bitch. Im pretty sure i slept for 6 hours in total, just cause my teeth were very fragile and aching. Also i got a little bit of a fat lip so that didn't help things. The advil did help a lot.

My mother's CNA had a cap put in , in one day. Was also told she would have to come back to check and make some adjustments, if needed. She also complained about pain and took Aleve for it. Story is plausible.

My crown was done in one day, as I said earlier in this thread, but it took far from 50 minutes. I waited 40 minutes between the root canal and the (permanent) capping while they made the tooth in their lab. Yes, some dentists, including mine, can do them in-house now (no 10-day delay to send them out).

But if you were in the chair for only 50 minutes, you didn't have a root canal. As others have mentioned, they probably just filed your tooth down since it didn't expose the nerve, put a temp on it, and you'll come back later for a permanent crown. That first visit could have been done in 50 minutes.

It would help N2N if you actually asked your dentist questions next time, so you knew what was going on.

No, I definitely did NOT have a root canal. Yes, now the nerves are not exposed.

Good Advice, but Turns out, there is an actual dentist on here and he pmed me lots of info and questions to ask my dentist. So I am glad i did this, he helped a lot.
