Back at ya! Miss P.!
You must admit that if you squint, this does look like it could be Sarah and Todd at the Alaskan gubernatorial inauguration:

Todd is WAY hotter than 'His Blandness'.
But she does look a little like the pageant contestant.
In fact, I tend to think they have a great deal in common.
There is a huge difference between pop stars and politicians.
Politicians affect our lives. Pop stars you can change the channel or skip the thread.
As for the comments on his adoption, you do not know her motivations behind the adoption, and it's sad that you would jump to the conclusion that she did it as a PR stunt or to keep up with the Jolies. At the end of the day, Madonna is a human. It's more likely that she wanted to have more children and decided that adopting a child in a place where most of those children will die or live in poverty would be a better choice. At worst, she brought attention to a major issue.
So, please know that I do take my fandom with a heaping dose of perspective.
If you think Sarah Palin is anything more than a "pop star," then we got some serious talkin' to do, bitch!

Oh, Lord have mercy!
*steps away*
She's a pop star who could be the leader of the free world if macabre things happen.
Sorry, but I see it as a huge distinction.
Hey, I like the red circle with the line across Sarah Palin's face. I'm just foolin' around, Jerb.
jrb, where is that GREAT sense of humor of yours? You are beginning to make cringe a little - the way Elisabeth Hasselbeck does.
At the end of the day we are only sharing opinions about Madonna. Nothing more, nothing less. Is that so serious?
Laugh a little, hon.
I am not sharing opinions about Madonna. I am making fun of Sarah Palin. It's all the rage!
If it weren't the 20th? 30th? thread to have (often the same) people sitting around dissing on Madonna, it wouldn't be so annoying. Sorry, but it's annoying. Humorless.
And the reason I was set off to begin with was what I perceived as stereotypical faggoty disses on women. I would have been just as set off if it had been about any woman. That it was about Madonna is more to do with why I clicked on the thread to begin with. I don't actually click on many threads here.
But let's not pretend you were merely making a joke when you called me out on my negativity about Sarah Palin. You were making a point. And, if it had been an avatar of a red line around Miley Cyrus or Paris Hilton, I would have cowered and giggled at my silliness and it would have been a pointed point.
I have an incredible sense of humor and have been known to make critical comments about Madonna. For the record.

"stereotypical faggoty disses on women"
*steps back in*
Excuse me? Just because you took the comments that way doesn't mean that's how they were intended. And your position of 'stereotypical faggoty disses on women' involves a fair amount of judgement in-and-of-itself.
But I do have to say, I know you to have a wicked sense of humor
"Excuse me? Just because you took the comments that way doesn't mean that's how they were intended."
DUH. I think brian and I cleared that up back on the first page.
"And your position of 'stereotypical faggoty disses on women' involves a fair amount of judgement in-and-of-itself. "
Yes. I do judge when gay boys have the audacity to talk **** about women. So, yes, I chose the phrase "stereotypical faggoty disses". I'm just poetic that way. Wicked sense of humor and all.
ETA: Laaaawd, I'm sure taking the heat off of Madonna. That's a fan for you. Lourdes, if you are reading this, I think I deserve a pair of backstage passes pretty please!
I agree that his opening comments were offensive. He's entitled to think whatever he wants, but the way he said what he thinks was pretty demeaning to me...and to most women, I should think.
It's probably not right for me to make fun of Sarah Palin either. But sometimes it's really hard not to. Sorry.
I was at a party in L.A. about a month or so ago and I meet this guy wearing a red string around his wrist.
I knew what it represented, so I asked him to explain Kabbalah to me.
He obliged and went on at length about the what it was, what it wasn't.. etc. etc. He was very astute, level headed in manner..and all his information was fascinating.
I eventually brought up the topic of Madonna and how she has popularized the faith. I asked him if he found Kabbalah through her.
He admitted he learned of Kabbalah through his being a huge Madonna fan and initially went to services in the hopes of seeing her. He did see her a number of times...but soon - quite unexpectedly - found the faith to his liking.
...So we are chatting it up and laughing over cocktails and finger food when I told him of my Madonna "jump the shark" theory.
...WELL...
He entire tenor changed. He became tense, heated and defensive. He started to spew out statistics on the death rate of Malawi children, how Madonna would NEVER do such a thing for publicity, and how sorry he was for me: that I must have a miserable life to be so cynical.
At the end of this extended and escalating rant(one I suspected he had given few times before) he whipped around on his heels (literally), did the "neck thing" and came dangerously close to snapping his fingers.
What can you do? People worship her.
We all have our blind spots.

"initially went to services in the hopes of seeing her"
HAHAHAHA!!!! And he had the audacity to comment on what he considered your cynicism?!?
Not that you are - but if you WERE - I can't IMAGINE what would drive you to that point . . .
BFB--I hardly think that guy speaks for all Madonna fans. Every huge star has crazy or irrational fans. I know some people here like to fancy that's who I am, but I am not. At least not since college.
He was a freak. I don't fault him for discovering a spirituality through ridiculous means. (FTR I have never thought of doing K) I don't fault him for finding your assessment of why Madonna adopted the child offensive.
I do fault him for becoming a screeching bitch over the matter (an irony in light of his overwhelming spirituality). And I certainly hope I haven't been interpreted as being a screeching queen in this thread. Because there is a difference I hope!
ETA: My disdain for Sarah Palin and her defenders is about to turn me into a screeching bitch I must say!

You know, Jerby, considering your recent use of terms like 'screeching bitch' and 'stereotypical faggoty', I'm not sure you're standing on the firmest of ground to question someone else's perspective.
Well, you are wrong. I don't use those terms without a full understanding of how some people might take them.
1. I use "faggoty" in the Chris Rockesque manner of thinking there are gay people and there are faggots. (Maybe it's even a Larry Krameresque thinking. I'll have to think about that). And it's with a sense of humor though I do find some people's behavior disgusting. I fully realize that the behavior in question has nothing to do with the person's sexuality. However, it often can be related to the social aspects from a stereotypical perspective. Thus, I use the word "faggoty" to pin point exactly what I am referring to.
2. I use the word bitch for every type of person, including myself.
I realize these phrases offend you. It's not actually my wish to offend you, Q. I'm not one of the snakes.
Broadway Legend Joined: 11/3/05
I'm not offended - really. And what would it matter if I was?
I'm just paying attention to your output and perspective, and I'm perceiving just a 'hint' of a double-standard, that's all.
And for the record, I LOVE the 'snakes'! I know they can't abide me, but I relish every single one of their posts. And actually learn a great deal from them - which I hope doesn't turn them to SH*T
Never a snake!
You are an "A" Number One kinda guy, Jerb!
Well, FTR, I adore almost everyone in this thread--disagreements or otherwise.
I fully acknowledge the possibility of a double standard, Q. I think I need to hear more of what you mean before I can decide if you are right on that or not. I'm more prone to think it's just a communication error because I chose those words at all.
The Jersey audiences always suck unless it's Bon Jovi.
I'll let you know how great she is after I go on Saturday.

Honestly, I find her hard to look at these days. Her face looks more and more like some bizarro waxy mask. If that's misogynist, so be it, but since that face is the result of money and craftsmanship, is it any different than critiquing what she wears?
Phyllis, she does make it a practice to overly slim down and buff up before each tour. She used to do it to the extent of losing her period. I can't say whether or not she still gets one, though!
Anyway, my point is that when she gets so thin, her face tends to be a little scary and manly.
I applaud her for her discipline in knowing what she had to do to remain strong during the tour.
I saw a little clip last night on tv. Wow, did anyone catch the size of her quads?
