Hi,
I have an audition for Into the Woods coming up soon and I still need an audition song. I've never seen the show, so I have no idea what the music is like, except that it is Sondheim. I didn't know if I should pick another Sondheim song, perhaps something from West Side Story, or something else. I sang "If I Were a Bell" for my last audition and got the lead, but I didn't know if that song is fitting for this audition since I have no idea how the music is. Thanks for any help!
What part are you auditioning for?

I'm most interested in Cinderella, Little Red Ridinghood, and Rapunzel. I'm also interested in Snow White and Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella's stepsisters. Sorry I didn't put this in my first post. Thanks!
You do know that Snow White and Sleeping Beauty come on for like 5 seconds in the end and say one line right?
If you're going for Rapunzel choose something that showcases a higher upper range. She's not too bright either since she's been cooped up in a tower all her life.
Little Red Riding Hood is a young naive girl. It's a real character part. She's very spunky as well. She gets to have a knife and threaten people with it.
Cinderella is what you'd expect from Cinderella. Beautiful and determined. One of the more stronger parts, and my favorite part in the show.
The stepsisters are crazy characters. Everything they do has to be huge. So a real character uptempo song would be good. They act very holier than thou even when they have nothing going for them.

I did not know that Snow White and Sleeping Beauty were such small roles. I've never seen the show.
My top choices would be Cinderella, Little Red, and Rapunzel based on the little that I know.
What do you recommend for these roles?
I'd try "Another 100 People" from Company. It's Sondheim. It has some of the same rhythms.
As others have said, Cinderella has some very high notes and one demanding song. She also shows some maturity. Rapunzel does a lot of high lalas, which become a running joke. Red is a "fun" character and has an "interesting" song about being eaten by the wolf - ok, it's all about sex. Her song is in a lower range than Cinderella.
i played cinderella. she's very ambivilant and almost everytime she runs on stage she falls on her butt in the first act (i actually have a permanent bruise on my right knee, believe it or not). this (like repunzels ah ah ah ah ahhss) along with her strange relationship with birds also become running jokes. she matures a lot in the second act and even becomes a mother figure for little red. i'm trying to remember what i did for auditions... the only reason i might steer away from a sondheim audition song is that a lot of times they can be difficult for the pianist, unless it's something from, like, west side story.
look into "it might as well be spring" from "state fair"! ooh that's be a good one.
