SONY is going to care about her CD sales.
It is pointless to discuss this with you as you look at her through [second-hand] rose colored glasses.
I know people who know her and she is either rude one moment or a flake the next. She dotes over that stupid dog in a 'very unusual way.' As long as Richard-Jay Alexander kisses her ample butt she will think this is the 1960s and everyone worships her.
I was fortunate enough to see her, opening night, at The Garden in her original comeback tour in the 90s. In fact, I shouted out "You're like buttah" during one of her chats with the audience (it seemed to me she was waiting for someone to do it), and that banter made its way onto the concert CD.
Having said all that, I wouldn't spend the big bucks now to see her. I spent $300 at the time for good seats to what I believed to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. However, her recent CDs have been snoozers, and she's become even more self-indulgent.
My favorite remarks in this thread have been "...her latest farewell tour..." and "...her original comeback tour..."
Please.
I agree with P.T. Barnum.
I love Barbra and believe she is worth a pretty penny to see, but not over a thousand dollars. Who can afford that? I'm sorry but those who say she can charge what she likes (in excess of a grand) are just as deluded as she is. That is obscene and spits in the face of people who work for a living.
Also, I wish Babs would just embrace the fact that she is now a bigger girl than she used to be.She looks great in the drapey capes with the exposed shoulders. However, her photographer for the live CD and the last Barry Gibb CD (which is very good IMO) is a genius. She wears black on a black background and he clearly digitizes the images so you can't tell where she begins or ends. It really is ingenious. She shows some skin (a shoulder or some leg)and they just jut out from a black background. Also, she dressed Barry Gibb in black and hides half of herself behind him. Babs, whatever size you are we love you. Enough with the black outfits and the photoshop already.
I take black outfits and Photoshop with me wherever I go.
I'm gay- I need full photos of costumes and outfits.I live for CD liner notes and photos of the artist. Babs has disappointed me recently with the trickery. Especially since she has access to the best designers in the world.

And chefs and personal trainers and nutritionists and diet pills.
You know what? Yes. She is too expensive. But there are people, like me, who are willing to pay because she is freaking WORTH IT - to me, at least, and I don't care what anyone else thinks.
I flew in from Israel to see her in NYC this past October, and paid $750 for my seat. I don't regret one penny.
You can call me stupid, crazy or sad, but to me that was the experience of a lifetime. And I know a lot of people who think the same.
Bwaylover, I totally respect you, think what you did is awesome and am a bit jealous. I just don't think you represent the mean of people who are able to do that. I think the Italians are giving Babs a reality check. The average person is unable to make it happen, regardless of desire to do so.
I've never been one to value "hear say" - my friend who knows the person, who's lady used to know the drycleaner...once said to me that....blah, blah, blah....
All I can say is that the 6 times I have worked with her, she was nothing but professional, complimentary, kind and very approachable.
We are all human and all capable of being "hot and cold" within minutes. I've done that before...who hasn't?
I'm a huge Barbra fan and have spent a lot of money seeing her throughout the years. To me, it's worth every penny. If people don't want to go...then fine. Don't go. Life is filled with choices. But, don't shoot arrows...and, then walk away.
I saw her 4 times on her North American Tour last year and will be seeing her twice in London in July.

Neal, you have worked with her six times and saw her six times on tour. Again, you do not represent the mean. I am not commenting on her personality or her work ethic. I am strictly talking pricing.
Hey, BettyBoy..... I was referring to FFLAG from an earlier post. Sometimes by the time you post your response, other responses have "trickeled" in....ha, ha.....
I agree...it is expensive. Not even an issue. I just hate it when people start bashing her....I heard from a friend who knows the sister of the drycleaner, etc..... And, when people don't get the facts right. That ticks me off to no end!
Barbra did slim down for her recent tour. That's very noticeable when you see pics of her a few months before the tour, during and after. When I saw the pic of her on the new cd, it's pretty obvious that it's been touched up. Pretty much all celebs are touched up with airbrushing, photo shop, etc.
"Barbra has never done a concert at an ampitheatre before..... So, whatever your friend told you, was wrong."
Um, there was A Happening in Central Park as well as the Hollywood Bowl concert, of which some of the footage was used to cover the audio defects in the Happening in Central Park recording.
Yes I too am bothered by the "urban legend" stories of star tirades. I know a friend, butcher, babysitter etc. Give me firsthand accounts with names or give me nothing. :)
Hey, Mister Matt...you are absolutely correct that Barbra did The Hollywood Bowl and CP.
When tmm_fan mentioned that Barbra performed at a "local ampitheatre years ago," wasn't sure if he meant....3 years ago or 40 years ago. Both the HB & CP were just about 40 years ago.
I think her prices are outrageous. Others think she's worth it. It's really all subjective, what you value and what you are willing to compromise. I would rather spend my $1000 elsewhere, but if someone else wants to spend their $1000 on a concert ticket it's not my place to say they are wrong. Same reason I went for the $150 tickets to Madonna last year instead of the $300 ones - I only wanted to spend $150 so I was content with those seats. Others need the best seat regardless of the price.
excuses, excuses.
will you defend her is she claims "2+2=5"?
And yes I do know people and their names are none of your f**king business.
It would be so nice if she were to behave like a real human being but I guess that ain't gonna happen. As for showing some fire in her career.
Would love it if she had the balls to take on Sweeney Todd or Follies but instead it was. . .Meet the Fockers.
If the italians don't want to pay. Don't see her. Simple as that.
Worth every penny. If you don't want to see her, don't go. No one is forcing anyone to spend the money.
Was Barbra offered "Sweeney" or "Follies?" That would be terrific if that happens.
Exactly....if the Italians, or anyone else, don't want to pay the ticket prices, then don't go.
First hand account?
She sent her 'people' into the dressing room that we were using to ask/demand that she use our fan.
They were rude, so she was by proxy.
She didn't get my fan.

If Barbra's people were rude, she has no control over that....
What theatre was this? Was this when you were costuming TOTM at The Dorothy Chandler?
I'm a huge fan & yes I think the tickets are too expensive. But also keep in mind that she donated over $11 million dollars last year to charity, most of this was from her tour. Check out: http://www.givingback.org/GivingBack30.html
With that being said, it is true that Ms. Streisand espouses these very democratic ideals & charges very Republican prices. People will pay, however, myself included.
It all comes down to the voice. It's unparalled. It's like a fine wine/Dom Perignon. I think her voice sounds better know that maybe at any other time in her career. Yes, she doesn't have the vocal range that she once had, but it has more depth & a deep rich tone to it. I think she finally understands the meaning of what she's singing.
Is she difficult, probably. Usually people who are that successfull are. Sometimes during her speeches during her shows it's like my god she takes herself so seriously. The Bush skit was like a bad SNL sketch. During the last L.A. show she asked how many people there are Republicans (which I'm not). There was signifigant applause. She was even surprised. Why are they there, why was I there. The VOICE. When she sings What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life, I could forgive her for almost anything.
"But also keep in mind that SHE donated over $11 million dollars last year to charity, most of this was from her tour."
Correction, the ticket buyers donated that money. In the future, I'd rather pay less for a ticket and donate money to the causes of my own choosing.
