Is Johnny Weir the biggest hypocrite ever>?

"Johnny Weir was last night's guest on Chelsea Lately with Chelsea Handler, and I'm sure it's a surprise to no one that gay topics were front and center. Indeed, during the segment Handler referred to Weir as gay several times, and even though he's never said those words himself, Weir didn't bat an eye.

But it was when the topic turned to Weir's arch rival, fellow American skater and Olympic Gold medalist Evan Lysacek, that things got interesting.

When Handler asked if Weir and Lysacek got along, Weir emphatically said, "No." Then he added, "We're fine. He's the Olympic champion and congratulations to him, but no. You know--"

Weir then made a hand gesture that was either meant to be dismissive or limp-wristed. If that had been the end of it, I would've said he was being dismissive, but it wasn't the end of it.

Handler then asked Weir about rooming with Lysacek's ex-girlfriend, using the word "girlfriend" in quotes. Then when Weir referred to her as Lysacek's "ex-girlfriend" he did so with a wink clearly meant to imply she was no such thing, presumably because Weir thinks he's gay. When Handler commented on the wink, Weir denied he'd winked at all.

Much of a hypocrite, Johnny?"

Sadly predictable. I wish I found him as much "fun" as everyone else. I think he must get up in the middle of the night to read his own publicity. A little of his self-promotion goes a long way.

I think it would have been more hypocritical of him to pretend like he and Evan were best friends.

I watched the show last night & I too found nothing wrong. In fact, I thought beforehand that Johnny was really irritating, but he came off as fun in the interview.

I watched the show and Chelsea was the one saying implying he was gay. Chelsea said she'd call her his girlfriend in quotations. Johnny said, "It's his ex-girlfriend." I thought he was very respectable in terms of Evan being gay or straight. A private wink may or may not have happened, but since Chelsea mentioned it, it's on her.

Well, I missed the wink. That does change the whole thing then. I don't think he was being hypocritical, though. He laughed at every gay comment and certainly didn't deny a thing.

I'm not sure, that's why I didn't comment in the OP. I was just trying to get a feel for the room. Does it make a difference if you assume Johnny Weir is gay? Does it make a difference if Evan (can't spell his name) is gay? Is it worse if he's straight and Weir just made him seem gay? Or if he is a closeted gay man and Weir outed him? And why doesn't Johnny Weir just come out anyway?

The way I see it...Johnny Weir might not have said he was gay but he certainly doesn't pretend to be anything else. I thought he was out...but I guess not? But he's not parading around fake girlfriends and talking about how he takes the responsibility of being "straight laced" like Evan does.

Every time I see Johnny Weir someone is asking him about him being called not family friendly enough for that ice tour and he always says, "duh, it's figure skating."

Perhaps in ten years Evan Lysacek will come out and we'll all talk about how brave he is. Why doesn't AfterElton (I laugh every time I type that) just go to him for a quote? I mean, Johnny Weir was talking smack about him. Let him defend himself.

Haha. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. It's not like Johnny Weir outed Evan Lysacek. Seriously, people need to get over it. I think they are both awesome, but Johnny Wier has personality in spades. Love it.

Anyways...I don't think she or any interviewer has asked Johnny if he is gay...They don't have to! It's not like he's Ricky Martin and trying to hide it! You don't have to ask...and if you did he might say yes...but I don't think he would deny it.

As for Evan, well...Johnny and I think the same thing!

He doesn't come out because of the raging homophobia in the country.

If you look at :20 on the vid you can see from the beginning the implication of what johnny is saying. Chelsea in her way, just helped it along as well. They both made this look like Evan was gay. Perhaps Johnny knows something. Skaters know eachother. tours, competitions...they see a lot. I really thought it was a given that Johnny was gay. Did he ever out and out deny it?

I don't really think he is being a hypocrite here.
