This thread makes me smile. I've had this song in my head all day.
And yes Margo is correct, it is very hard out here for a Pony.

I liked how at the beginning of the number she started out singing, "It's hard out here for a pimp" as if she were Beyonce singing a lovely ballad at last year's Oscars, then seemed to realize midway through the number that Beyonce got to sing lovely ballads while she was stuck singing those same crappy lines ad infinitum. So then she just seemed to get bored and started changing it up a little each time. By the end it was "hod owt heah fo a piyump."
And no one grew into anything new, we just became the worst of what we were."

Well, I guess your post at least cleared up for me that there are other lyrics than just "it's out here for a pimp," because I swear those were the only words I heard them say during the entire song when they performed it.

Nobody listens to Howard Stern anymore...
I just downloaded the song on itunes and I can understand every word crystal clear. You would think it was Patti LuPone singing it.

I htink Clearasil should but the rights to this song - imagine a commercial with an animated zit singing "It's hard out here for a pimple"!

At the end of the commercial, can the pimple squeeze himself and splatter all over the mirror?

While we're at it:
MIDNIGHT COWBOY - THE MUSICAL - Ratso Rizzo sings "It's hard out here for a gimp".
VIAGRA - THE MUSICAL "It's not hard out here when you're limp"
FORREST GUMP - THE MUSICAL - "It's hard out here fishin' for shrimp"
MAYBERRY - THE MUSICAL - Barney Fife sings "It's hard out here for a wimp"
and one that Jay Leno did last night:
KING KONG - "It's hard out here for a chimp"

I wasn't crazy about the song either, but when I spoke to composer Steve Lutvak, who should have been nominated for his title song to MAD HOT BALLROOM, I was interested to hear his reaction - "I think it's a great song and it was well integrated into the film and strongly relates to the storyline. It wasn't just tacked on at the end. I can fully see why it won."
"Christ, Bette Davis?!?!"

Yes, it works in the film. Yes, it's still a horrendous choice for the Oscar. There were so many other songs that should have been nominated instead of this piece of garbage. I'm just really pissed that Dolly Parton didn't win.
It's hard out here for a pimp...YEA, then stop being a damn pimp and change your life, you f*cking d*ckwad.

Dolly Parton looks more like a pimp these days than just about anyone.

I'm sayin it's hard out here for a big-titted country gal! Dolly was robbed! Give her back her Oscar! And while you're at it, give her back the Oscar for "9 to 5," too!

The great thing is that Dolly clearly does not need Oscar recognition. she's Dolly! And she looked fantastic, plastic boobs face, lips and all! She can do no wrong and SHE should have sung "pimp." Now, THAT would have been a performance to remember.

Right? She's like, 'F*ck you, I got a theme park!'
"I'm so looking forward to a time when all the Reagan Democrats are dead."

She looks AWESOME??? Hmmm.....
I love me some Dolly, but at the rate she's having work done I fully expect Wayland Flowers to take over control of her inner workings by year's end.
Put down the knife and back away from the country diva... now. She's melting... and she needs a sandwich fast.

Dame - if you think Dolly's face looks awesome - you have been spending too much time in Beverly Hills of late...I adore the woman but she looks like a cross between Pete Burns from the 80s group "Dead or Alive" and tranny-cabaret artist Amanda LePore...

Not only does the woman have her own theme park, but she seems to be beloved by most of the country. I certainly don't know anyone who dislikes her. She's just a likable gal! And an incredibly talented singer and songwriter.
