I have 11 people coming over to watch. The menu is set, beverages are chilling and looking forward to it all. We have a blast. My only problem is I have to work tomorrow. Can you all call me at 5:30 tomorrow morning to make sure I'm up.

I love Oscar night and watch the entire show every year. I am a huge movie fanatic. I go to the movies at least once a week most times twice a week. Nobody else I know will be watching the Oscars. In fact if I mention the Oscars at work tomorrow, my co-workers would have no idea what I'm talking about.

I'm going to a friend's house for our Annual Oscar Bash. We all bring great food items, and plan it way ahead of time. That way there aren't 6 desserts.

And, my friend has an amazing entertainment system at his house. A huge HI DEF tv, surround sound and everything.

We fill out our ballots, everyone puts in $50, and have a great time. Whoever gets the most right, wins the pool. Last year I won, and got $600.

But, we have 1 rule......no talking during the show, only during the commercials. Just like at the movies.

I'm looking foreward to the "In Memoriam" segment. Do you reckon Deborah Kerr will get the final image?

Probably Heath Ledger will be the final deceased person shown during the tribute. Ms. Kerr will probably be next to last.

I think who makes "final face" on the Dead Reel might be one of the most compelling moments of the telecast tonight.

I'm thinkin' Heath. He's got the buzz, he was hot and sexy. There's a lot of momentum behind that choice.

Seeing Deborah Kerr taking her last dance would be more memorable. FOr me at least.

I cry everytime I watch that number anyhow.

Here's a thought - since it's the 80th Oscar show, I wonder if history will repeat itself with what the Academy did at the 70th & the 75th broadcast?

They had over 50 or so previous Oscar winning actors all sitting up on stage and they were indivually introduced. It sure was exciting to see so many stars on the stage at once.

But, I remember during both tributes, that there were a lot of winners who didn't attend.........Sally Field, Jessica Lange, Jane Fonda, Shirley McClaine, Glenda Jackson, Anthony Hopkins, Jodie Foster, Goldie Hawn, Liza M, Joan Fontaine, Loretta Young, Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey, Roberto B, Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons, William Hurt, Paul Newman, F Murray Abraham, Paul Newman, Elizabeth Taylor, Emma Thompson, and others.

Hard to get everyone to be at the same place, at the same time.

Many were afraid to attend big events like the Oscars so soon after 9/11. That was the main reason why they didn't show up, no joke. Yet they got Olivia de Havilland and Luise Rainer to do it. I guess they figured at their ages, how much did they really have to lose?

*crass joke*

I don't think there are any big plans to create a moment like that tonight, but I could be wrong. I hope I am! I want something SPECIAL tonight... in a GOOD way.

You're probably right about the 75th broadcast being so soon after 9/ll. But, there were a lot of them there. I watched both show tributes today....pulled out some old tapes.

Olivia and Luise R were both there for the 75th. Luise was there for the 70th & the 75th.

They flew Olivia and Luise in from Paris, put them up in nice hotels and gave them the star treatment. I'm glad they bothered. It made it all the more special.

And they're both still alive! Luise may be the oldest living Oscar-winner, and a consecutive one, at that.

They might have shared the cost with Warner Home Ent., who had both Olivia and Luise record some on-camera stuff for their DVD releases of Gone With the Wind, Robin Hood, The Great Ziegfeld and The Good Earth.

Regardless of who footed the bill, it was a great decision to take advantage of that "living history."

I'm a little late to this thread - first of all, love the Oscars. Always have. Can't wait to see Kate Winslet, even though she's not up for anything, and Daniel Day Lewis.

Secondly - all that money and Jerry S. still has a totem poll up his a**? Someone get that guy an enema..

Absolutely...they both deserve the star treatment. Luise is still alive and kicking...good for her!

I wonder if the supposed fued between Joan Fontaine and her sister Olivia is still going on? That would have been amazing for Joan to have been at the 75th broadcast with her sister.

Joan Fontaine was invited, but since they were giving her sister Olivia the podium, she "unfortunately" declined to come.

The feud continues...

Unbelievable.

That's unfortunate. Granted, it's their business, but....life is so short.

There's so much energy on being negative.......you're working harder to avoid someone, ya know?

I've looked on Youtube, but can't find it, I'd love to see the salute to Charlie Chaplin from the early 70's and when Katherine Hepburn showed up to give an honorary Oscar. She never attended the times that she won. One day, I should go to the Academy library and see the tapes.

It's amazing to me that they can hold a competitive grudge for that long... since the ceremony when Joan won for "Suspicion" (1942, I believe).

On a side note, I've been watching "The China Syndrome" on a free HD channel this afternoon. Damn! That movie is better than anything nominated for Best Pic this year. Jack Lemmon and Jane Fonda are/were legendary.

I want a gripping nail-biter, than isn't so SLICK it's prefabricated. I want "imperfection" in achievement, but "perfection" in intent, form and focus instead.

That's the problem. Movies today are better technically, but not artistically. There are so many mavericks of "style" but not of "story telling." And I HATE it.

I CRAVE the latter. I'm starving for it.

If I see one more movie with a CRAPPY, cop-out, vague open-ended ending, I'm going to throw something at the screen.

That's so friggin' EASY to do. All you need is no imagination and no point-of-view to do that.

*grabs a margarita*

I need to lighten up before I start howling at the moon.

I'd prefer the last frame to be Deborah Kerr.

That's a really good way to sum it up, Besty. All style and no story telling. So true. Even really bad movies can have wonderful visuals, costumes, art direction, etc. Lots of artisans out there. But story so often gets less attention. Updated On: 2/24/08 at 07:08 PM

Did anyone see Gary Busey attack Seacrest and Larua Linney and Jennifer Garner? Was he messed up, or what?

I just got home from work a little while ago. I'm so looking forward to the ceremony. Since I haven't seen any of the nominated films, I have no favorites this year.

So, now, will someone please rip the microphone out of Lisa Rinna's hand and give it to someone who can do the job. Half of the stars just stare at her like she's an alien. Same really with Ryan Seacrest. Ugh!!!
