Well I for one, am not "offended." Nothing Joan Rivers does can offend me. I just didn't think the joke was funny and in general, I think the woman is purposely trying to offend people more than she ever did. You know, to remain "relevant" and happening. She's probably on a roll now with her Fashion Police show, and she was babbling about some project with Melissa and her ex husband, who they now love. I don't know what's going on.

I watched the Letterman clip. Every time Letterman would say Adele she'd stretch her arms way out on either side, because, you know, Adele is GINORMOUS.
Wow, the joke went right over your head GavestonPS.
Ovens are hot.
As a matter of fact, Holocaust victims were gassed, not cooked to death; so while it was no doubt warm in a crowd of panicked victims, the process didn't make the guards any warmer. And it certainly didn't make them "look hot", which is what she said.
I understand the joke and the history. It's not my fault that it doesn't make sense, but it does detract from the humor Rivers hoped to achieve.
"We have to shrug off a few Holocaust/AIDS/rape jokes to get the gold."
No "we" don't.
Oh, I didn't mean you, Namo. If you had a sense of humor, you'd have to let go of your petty grudges.

I've been thinking a lot about the whole "I'm offended thing." I had a friend who was half black and would pounce on anyone who made a racist joke, but would routinely make Jew/gay/etc jokes.
Not that I think racist jokes are okay, of course, but sometimes I think there are people who sit up at night thinking about things to be offended by.
GavestonPS, after the victims were gassed, the bodies were cremated in large ovens. Those ovens were hot.
Adele has always been a bigger girl, but she is absolutely beautiful.

If Joan weren't self-loathing to her very core, she wouldn't a) keep having surgeons do what they keep doing to her mask of hate; and b) be so spiteful about someone like Adele having the temerity to sell more albums than anybody else for two years without being a scrawny scarecrow destined to be hunched over like Joan in 75 years.
PS I can't believe I read one of the most annoying posters on this site's explication of the finer points of death camp techniques. It's not a grudge Gaveston, it's all new every time you do your annoying thing.
"I call [Kristen Stewart's Oscar dress] the George Michael, because its bottom has been torn to pieces."
Joan also said this joke, but no one complained about it. I found both jokes at once hysterical and groan-worthy.
Rock on, Joan!

Joan has done a lot of things, but she has never rocked and she will never rock.
Namo, I'm pretty sure that guy flag is a troll.
I, personally have never found that woman funny. Not even "In her day". There is something about overly mean spirited humor that just rubs me the wrong way.

The cruelty? The kicking of underdogs? The elitism? The bile? The hatred? The talentless spawn? The condescension? The absolute inability to hear criticism without whining while dismissing anybody who bristles at her viciousness with "It was a JOKE!" Who does that bitch think she is making George Michael is a bottom jokes? Honestly, how did Edgar not kill himself in the '60s?
GavestonPS, after the victims were gassed, the bodies were cremated in large ovens. Those ovens were hot.
Yes, I know, Tag, but (a) I don't think dead bodies have to be "pushed"; and (b) that still has nothing to do with any German LOOKING hot. Which is what she said and why the joke didn't play: it was not just offensive, it made no sense.
Why are we still discussing this?

I don't claim to be an expert, but I am confident I know more about concentration camps than you know about humor. At least I know one when I see one.
Jane2, Joan Rivers has made a living - a very good one - out of personally trying to offend people for the last 600 years.
However, I have to say, a line like that is much more appropriate for stand up when one is alone on stage than for a collaborative presentation when one is working with others who are going to be embarrassed and not be sharing the edge with the comic.

Joan has said many other equally (or more) offensive things as part of her humor. She's been in the business for 40 years. Everyone knows her act. People are shocked now?
It seems like a lot of this is Internet outrage. I mean, how many people actually saw the show where she made the joke? Joan is loving the controversy because it promotes her--similar to the way Donald Trump courts controversy. (Note: I love Joan and hate Trump)
Watch the documentary about a year in her life, Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work. She works hard for the money.

What does being present have to do with it?
"Jane2, Joan Rivers has made a living - a very good one - out of personally trying to offend people for the last 600 years. "
ya think?
Listen, I happen to be fan of Joan Rivers. Her jokes make me laugh out loud. My comments in this thread are about the supposed humor in her Holocaust joke and about how even more over the top she's become. I was a bigger fan of her self deprecating jokes.
Only TRIUMPH, the Comic Insult Dog, is funnier and more offensive than Joan!

Only Triumph is funnier than Joan? I think Triumph is one of many.
Joan's problem is that she is still working. Time passed her kind of humor by, but she's still at it. You can't do drunk jokes, so Foster Brooks' career was over. Can't do race jokes, so Don Rickles' career faded.
Joan's still at the same thing. And begat Kathy Griffin. He biggest offense.
Yes Triumph is a lot funnier then Joan. Smigel goes out of his way to cross the line. BUTfor me, Triumph isn't being cruel in his jokes. They are offensive, but not mean spirited.

But you guys - she's always been like this! And for that very reason you can never have a negative reaction to anything she says, unless you can prove you have criticized every other objectionable thing she has said.
Also, you weren't there. If you weren't there, you don't get to have an opinion on it. Just ask Tracy Morgan!
Blah blah blab PC Police blah blah
While joan is funny in my opinion I will never forgive her for unleashing that freaky looking offspring on America.
