Ugh. I'm not suggesting that Agustin stayed up all night plotting, trying to find an obscure term that would whiz right over Patrick's head. At this point, this kind of **** just comes naturally to him. He doesn't even have to think about it. I've known some gays like this. Perhaps I've just had ****tier friends than you saints.

No you haven't. Trust me go out to any bar in Chelsea..you'll run into a TON of "Agustins" on any given night.

I appreciate how much effort Horse Tears has undertaken to fill in the copious blanks in Looking. I used to do the same thing with soap operas, explaining away things that made no sense by assuming a hell of a lot of action happened offscreen.
I think it's great that somebody would land on thinking these people were behaving as any people in long-term relationships would because I don't think they particularly behave like people who've even been introduced.
I will say I'm glad Damianftom Mean Girls has appeared, house in Versailles or no, because he most resembles a human being and not an avatar.
I thought you were going off to your kingdom? What happened? Lost your way?
Last thing I'll say on our ridiculous granular look at this one line. I totally get that when one hears a line that sounds 'off' - too writerly, out of character, whatever - it can throw everything off. But, to my ears it sounded just like something Agustin would say. I maintain that it was smart of the writers to choose a somewhat obscure term as well. If they'd chosen some common colloquial term that practically every mo would know, Patrick would look unbelievably naive by not knowing it. Instead, it's quite believable that Patrick would not know this obscure term, but it's also believable that Agustin would know it and use it and that Dom would know it (or decipher it quickly). For me it worked.
I'm going back to a dreadful Excel spreadsheet and a loop of that glorious song Eric so kindly identified.

Come on over to my place if you want to dish! We can even respond to things posted here, over there. Don't want Carlos to think I'm some sorta Headband who doesn't keep his word.

A gentleman friend was kind enough to provide me with a link so I shall be able to view the season debut for myself.
I'm not sure what he meant precisely, but this gentleman friend described the episode as a "20-something gay version of Into the Woods."

They go into the woods, meet a fairy, and eat some magic beans.
Except isn't one of the "points" meant to be that they're all in their 30s? But, umm, yeah, they go into the woods I suppose, so your gentleman friend is... right?
Once you reach a certain stage in life everyone younger seems to be 20-something.

HorseTears, just read that you liked the Nile Rodgers remix of Sister Sledge's Lost In Music. He also remixed some of their other hits also. There is also a great remix around the same time of Chic's Everybody Dance. These remixes came out I think mid to late 80"s. Then later in the 90's there were more remixes by Sure as Pure that were really good. At the time, I had all of these on import vinyl. I believe, these remixes were put on one commercial cd, but I maybe wrong.

I liked the first episode a great deal- I found it pretty engaging funny, largely to Lauren Weedman, who's really brilliant. Personally, Patrick's innocence bugged me more than anything Augustin did- the shot of him actually hugging the tree was ridiculous. Still, I'll definitely keep watching.
It was pretty good episode.
You are very right, HorseTears, about my friend being unable to differentiate between 20-something and 30-something-plus. He is 50-something...and for not much longer.
Nevertheless, he was kind enough to give me the link that allowed me to watch the episode, so I will refrain from saying anything negative about him behind his back, unlike Patrick, Dom, Agustin and Doris, who seem to delight in doing so behind Lynn's back while they are staying at his cabin.
The episode, to me, was about being good and being bad and what does it mean when we are one or the other. Patrick seems good to a fault, but maybe he's not so goody-goody. The best line in the evening--the truest--was when Augustin said something about both of them being shi_tty but Patrick deals with it being trying to be good all the time. Whereas Agustin is just shi_tty. We all know people like that.
The show is slow-paced, even when the characters are not on ecstasy, but it's certainly nothing to organize against.

Just a random observation- I noticed that on both Looking and Queer as Folk all the main characters are drug users. It would be nice if they represented a gay guy who was drug free. I mean, i get that drug use is usually associated with gay people, but still..
They've gotten that complaint before. To be fair, they don't do hard drugs nearly as often as they did on QAF (US version.)
I think the sow suffers from only being 30 minutes. I always feel that I've just started to get comfortable with the episode and BAM, it's over. And since they want to move the season on, the storytelling is choppy to try to complete their goal for the episode.
I do keep watching, but I do keep wishing it were better.
I feel the exact opposite about Lauren Weedman. I feel sorry for her and all the fag hag mugging she has to do. It's embarrassing. The series completely s@#t the bed in this one episode. Every gay cliche rolled up into a joint. Is there a way to create a show about LGBTQ that is engaging, heartfelt and humorous that doesn't have the characters doing drugs, having unsafe sex and constantly searching for the next penis and party? Maybe not.
UGH. I know, right? Why can't we have a show where they just get gay married, go to Home Depot on the weekend, and never EVER do anything remotely queer. Is that so much to ask, America??
Is it queer to do drugs and hound for sex? There are many sides of the coin. For portrayals of women there is Sex & The City, but there also is/was Army Wives, Sisters, Ally McBeal, Any Day Now, and I could go on and on. I'm not saying let's make it a gay show with LGBTQ influences scrapped but there is a fascinating spectrum that has been completely unexplored.
Betty - of course, but I think we've covered the it's-unfair-to-expect-this-one-humble-show-on-HBO-to-be-all-things-to-all-lgbt-people-in-their-multitudes-and-really-this-speaks-to-the-heretofore-lack-of-quality-lgbt-themed-programming thing, haven't we?
Exactly. And some people complained that they made the fact that the sex was safe (condom package ripping shot, etc) too obvious, but I guess it wasn't obvious enough for some.
