Ben's dad was Roger, Work Man -- from the bus episode a couple of months back.
romantico - I was wondering if Jacob and the smoke monster are the same also - but if so, didn't they at one point say the point of the sonic fence is to keep Smokey out? If that's the case, then the correlation doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense.
Why is Jacob asking for help? Ben didn't SEEM to control him at all, unless that ash somehow keeps Jacob from leaving the area. If THAT'S the case, then what the heck is he?
This show gets more and more baffling - and I love every second!

Yes, Bens' Dad was Roger Linus or "Roger Work Man" as we know him! His mom's name was Emily.
Wow what an episode. I have to re-watch the shack scene frame by frame or look online. I did see a shadow of a man, and a closeup of an eye that was brown (so it was clearly not Ben's or Locke's as they both have blue eyes). The shack scene was kind of scary too - good stuff!
I think Locke is alive. Remember - the Island does have healing properties (Naomi, Mikhail) I wonder why some people heal and others die from injuries (like Ethan, Libby, AnaLucia).
So Richard doesn't age? He was an adult when Ben was a boy. Now Ben is clearly older than Richard, yet Richard looks to be the exact same age as he was before. That's some strange "Others" thing maybe we'll learn about.
I guess we've learned Dharma and The Others were originally two separate groups of people!

I agree with everyone, this episode was quite interesting. I hope Locke isn't dead, he worked exceptionally hard to show that he is not a weak person. I hate Ben, and if Locke does live, which I believe he will, he is going to kill Ben. Or once the rest of the "Others" or the remaining survivors find out about what Ben did to Locke someone will seek out revenge on Ben, so in my opinion his days are numbered.
A side note, what is up with Juliet and Jack? Can they or can they not be trusted? I'm really intrigued by this.
Another easter egg perhaps.... Is the van that Hurley and Charlie found in the jungle the same van that Ben killed his father in? I don't remember the name of the body they found in that van.
Roger ... right, I knew that.
There is some kind of elctro magnetic shield on the island. This why they need to keep resetting the computer I assume. Could this magnitism be whats cured Locke? Could this also control one's aging like Robert? If so, why didn't it make Ben look younger? I don't trust Ben. Maybe the electronic fence is how Ben controls Jacob. I see alot of Stephem King refences in the story and last night I kept thinking of "The Stand". Not sure why yet. I'm still taking in last nights episode. I had a theory that Jacob was actually going be an older Walt(like an old man)I have thought in the past that time has something to do with the island.Speculating is the best part in my opinion and I have been right on the money with a couple of things so far.

beyondblessed - yes it was the same van. The body they found had the "Roger Work Man" uniform on. Did you notice the song playing as Ben & Roger were driving to the mesa was the same song that played when Hurley, Sawyer and Charlie were driving the van around? Little Lostie easter egg connection.
I need to see screen grabs of the shack! I bet there were a lot of clues in there. All the easter egg sites are moving sloooow right now though!
romantico - you have good theories!
I listen to the Official LOST Podcast every week (yes, I am one of those nerds!) I also swear by this website!!!

I have turned SO MANY people onto this site for clues!
I don't know if I've posted this site before but...for all the Lost geeks like me, check out lostpedia.com. It has everything you could ever want to know.
I'll bet you anything that Locke lives. Just from a structural perspective, if he was going to die, I think he'd do it at the end of the episode, not at the beginning of next week's.
If I remember right, Boone fell out of the plane in one episode and was hurt, but there wasn't any talk of his DYING from it. The next episode after that had him being brought back to Jack and dead by the end of the episode.
I just can't see Locke being killed -- he's TOO important to the show and still too unresolved.
The writer at ew.com posted the theory that SOMEHOW Jacob is an alternate or older version of Locke....hmmmm
I think that there is some very obvious "Locke still has a role to play" stuff going on. He may be "mortally wounded" but he could easily make it two more seasons if he has a day to live.
Loved this episode, good good boom!
Okay...
so who saw last night's episode? Will Charile be killed by the strange new women at the Looking Glass Station? Will the survivors plan work? Has Ben lost all good sense? Does Alex know that Ben isn't her father? And back by popular demand it's ROSE AND BERNARD!!!!
I was surprised to see Rose and Bernard. I hadn't seen them in so long, I assumed they were dead.
In my opinion, they HAD to bring Rose and Bernhard back. First time we've seen them all season. Ben something a few episodes back about curing Juliet's cancer and I think this is where a plotline with Rose would fit in. Of course, I could be wrong.
I also think Desmond saw more in his vision than he is letting on. Isn;t it funny how we have seen all of Desmond's visions but last nights we didn't? I think he left something out and he wanted Charlie to do what he did. As for why, its not clear yet.
A war is coming. Would't it be somewhat biblical if during this war Locke, who is believed dead, has somehow "resurected"? If Jacob is the smoke monster and needs Locke's help I can see the smoke monster taking the shape and form of Locke (like Echo's dead priest brother)or maybe Jacob somehow helps/heals Locke. Lets not forget Locke heals on the island at a faster rate, unlike Ben. Still don't trust Juliete. According to the podcast, and I could be way off here, but it sounds like they are hinting that there is someone else on the island in the group who has been I contact with the 'others'. Keep guessing away!!!

Romantico - you mean ike a mole in the Losties conspiring with The Others? That would be a good plot twist!
I have never been a Charlie fan, but I must say they did a good job of humanizing him a bit last night. I started to get sad when he was going down into the Looking Glass.
Also, good point about us not seeing Desmond's visions for the first time. That has to be significant.
Overall, not enough Others last night for me (I admit, I'm hooked on The Others storyline), but it was a decent episode.
So, the Looking Glass IS monitored after all. Do you think Juliet knew this and wasn't letting on? I still don't know if she's to be trusted.

I don't trust Desmond as far as I can throw him ...
I don't really trust Desmond yet, or Juliet, or Jack.
I still trust Jack, and I want to trust Juliet.
Charlie is SO. DEAD.
Seriously, that has to have been his last episode. His past is pretty much wrapped up, and we've all seen that that's a great way to get killed on this show. Plus, it would sort've cheapen this episode to have him live next episode. I feel that they did a great job of honoring him before he sacrifices himself.
I love Desmond so much that I just want to trust him...
I do trust Desmond. I don;t think Charlie is going to die, or atleast not yet anyway. We'll have to wait and see.
Yes, I think there is a mole in with the Losties. I'm thinking either Sun or Sawyer. Sun shot one of the others early this season and they were not happy about that. They knew its Sun because Juliet was there. Maybe she made somekind of deal with them(???) Sawyer is another posibility. Like I said, I could be totally wrong. I was just listeneing to the podcast and one of the writers said something rather cryptic that got me thinking.
Anyone else notice how pissed Ben was? Why? Was he upset about having to shoot Locke? (I think that was his plan all along)We have not seen Ben like we did last night. Very angry, like he's loosing control.
Also, are they suggesting that Ben now does NOT have a daughter????? This may change things. Also explains why Rosseau a few episodes back interupted Locke and Sawyer to 'borrow' some dynamite.
LOVED Charlie's "Greatest Hits" list. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that Charlie's not going to be with us much longer....although maybe it's all a big hoax, since that's what we all think will happen and they love to surprise us on this show.
HATED "Karl's" acting "They're coming NOOOOOOOOW!"....it just made me laugh!
And can I just add an observation about last week's show? If Ben was so intelligent and such a good student, how come he also ended up being a "work man" with Dharma? I got the feeling that Ben's dad got that job because he was at the "bottom of the barrel"...but I didn't get that from Ben.

I want Charlie to live.........Desmond can die.
I wondered the same thing Wendy. I guess it could have been part of his plan to survive the purge, staying under the radar and not being too highly placed in Dharma.
Wendy, I wondered the same thing. How did Ben climb to power?
Anyone remember several episodes back where Cahrlie got shot in the neck with an arrow? Well, Desmond changed events from happening. He altered the future. I think we're gonna see a flashback of what Desmond REALLY saw. I think this is all part of some plan and as of now, I see there to be no reason why not to trsut Desmond.
Naomi is the one not to trust. I DO NOT think she is alone. She said something to the guy w/the patch and she spoke in 3 different languages. I think there are more, not just her. Perhaps this could be part of Ben's plan. Sayid asked if anyone actually saw the helicopter crach into the ocean. Sayid is not convinced she is telling the truth. Nor am I. Stay tune.....
"I still trust Jack, and I want to trust Juliet."
ME TOO!!
