Thanks for the contributions mijofly, but I've decided especially with this show to be totally anti-spoiler. I don't wanna know who's gonna be on the next episode, whose flashbacks it will be, etc.

So maybe we can put a bit of a spoiler in front of seemingly non giveaway items like that?

Well, since I read that, I certainly can believe a relationship existed between them, just between their interactions.

I read today, or yesterday that the new characters (specifically Roderigo Santoro (is that his last name?)) would be introduced in the second episode.

Oh, and contrary to most of you, I loved the episode. It was Lost as usual. Slow and steady.

I'm just afraid this show will end-up like X-Files: "We're going to reveal the secret tonight!"....."gotcha!"

"Come see the movie and all will be revealed!".... "gotcha! (thanks for the nine bucks by the way)"

Part of the thrill of this show is NOT getting the secrets revealed. Or, if something is revealed it opens up a new question. I love it!

"I'm also thinking that a plane may have crashed here before. A few planes in fact. Ben knew what to do and who to send right away. Almost like this had become a routine for them."

^^ Well, we know the drug plane from Nigeria crashed there(the one with the Mary statues from S1/S2). I wonder if there others (other planes, not the actual Others!)

I love Juliet so far - she's so darn calm...

What happened to the bears? Could the polar bear from S1 have been in there?

I am way too into this show. It's got me hooked like X-Files did!

I thought the zoo was the best answer for the polar bear.

I agree, the show is not about "revealing the secrets" or "the truth is out there" it is much more interested in a journey, an internal journey.

I don't think there was a lack of hope at all Brd, you have to see what is happening and I think there is a large amount of hope in the Juliet character's disobedience of Benry.

I hadn't even thought about the possibility of the polar bear coming from the zoo.

EW is saying that the book in the first scene is definately Carrie. I can't actually make out the title in the picture they posted, but I'm inclined to believe it considering the size of the books they were holding.

It's Carrie. You can see the title. (I watched the ep again online on abc.com)

Not a fan, and after this first episode of the new season, they lost me (pun intended)

If, according to "Ben" it would only take one of the minions he sent to where the plane crashed an hour to run over there, don't you think any of the survivors would have stumbled on "CLUB MED" at some point. It's only 5, maybe 6 miles away.

Thanks for the confirmation Erika. That's what I thought all along, but I haven't had time to go back and rewatch the episode. Damn job! re: LOST Season 3

My pleasure, my dear. =) I really love the fact that Ben hates Stephen King. Because I love Stephen King, and of course I hate Ben, so it just makes me happy that - so far - we have nothing in common. re: LOST Season 3

I'm having trouble adjusting to calling HIM (ow pun), Ben instead of NotHenryGale.

Yes, Ethan has extraordinary strength. Either that , or he went by boat.

I hope we see some Walt this season. One of the most interesting characters on the show - although by now he's probably 30. Kid ages quick.

It took me a while to place her, but Juliet played by Elizabeth Mitchell played Kim, Dr. Waever's first gay lover on ER....

peach, on another board I read, he has been dubbed "Benry".

Rodrigo Santoro AND Sayid in the same hour of television might be too much for my poor heart.

"I don't think there was a lack of hope at all Brd, you have to see what is happening and I think there is a large amount of hope in the Juliet character's disobedience of Benry."

Was I not watching closely enough? When did she disobey him? I took that last exchange between them to mean that she was lying to Jack, not Benry.

"I read today, or yesterday that the new characters (specifically Roderigo Santoro (is that his last name?)) would be introduced in the second episode."

And we won't even meet one of the new characters until January, according to an article I read yesterday.

I'm looking at this thread, trying to avoid anything which will give away too much for me. We're not getting season 3 over here until early 2007. Just finished season 2 about two months ago.

I hear there is going to be a mini-cliffhanger after 6 episodes, and then the rest of the 23 will follow a few weeks later. Is that true?

What I'm most interested in now is Desmond. I want to know if he gets to read 'our mutual friend', why his girl had those arctic guys monitoring them, etc. What we can gather from that at least is that it's not true that 'this is it', that there is no longer anything outside of the island, that the world is gone or something. Very exciting.

The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

I know there is a bit of a break in the middle, then the rest of the episodes. ABC is doing this in response to fan complaints last year that the show was too sporadically aired. They would show three new episodes, then show four weeks of re-runs, and so on. It got frustrating, and made parts of the second season hard to get into. This year, the season is being show in two "chunks."

re: the significance of the name Ben at the end, during the book club discussion at the beginning, a big part of the arguement comes from the fact that "Ben" doesn't like the book and wouldn't be caught dead reading it. I guess it was just significant because it revealed that it was him they'd been talking about, though I'd gathered that once it was revealed that they were the Others. Anyway, that part of the first scene gave me kind of a creepy cult-vibe, the idea that these people are so devoted to their leader that they can't even read books that he doesn't like!

Yes, it was the book club that makes me think there is hope that Juliet does not think Benry is the best, there was palpable tension between them.
It may not mean that she will wind up on the "Losties" side, but I do think it gives some hope.

Last night's episode - not bad, not one of the best.

I like the Sun/Jin flashbacks, but I'm realizing it's always the same story rehashed - Jin is more or less indebted to Sun's Dad forever, Sun's dad is a mob man with a vengence and always gets his way, Sun is sad that Jin is a hitman. This whole sceanrio is sa strain on their marriage, but they live in a fab high-rise. We did learn that Sun lied to Jin last season - she HAS been with more than one man.

Totally loved the Red Sox thing.

next week looks amazing - seems to center on my favorite characters Locke, Eko and Desmond.

I am also very excited about next week turning to Locke, Eko and Desmond.

The best parts of this one were the interactions of Sawyer and Kate. Benry telling Jack that he has always been on the island is interesting as well, whether or not it is true.

I agree with the TV watch from EW about one thing, there was little excuse for Sayid to come up with such an obviously horrible plan, and to fail so miserably in the stakeout. He may be blinded by a thirst for revenge, but it seems a very easy out.

I liked last night's episode. I'm never really that big of a fan of Jin/Sun episodes, but last night's was a good one.

Favorite moment of the episode was definately the Sawyer/Pickett exchange. I'm glad to see the other Others get screen time while Mr. Friendly's boat hunting. I don't think that Coleen is dead, so I think Ben is going to end up asking Jack to save her. I don't know if Ben knew about Coleen at the end of the episode, but I think that Jack will definately be involved in helping her.

I was also surprised that Sun actually shot her. I think that was the first time we've ever seen one of the Others be wrong about something. I can't wait to see what's going on with Alex and Karl either.

Great episode last night! I knew Sun couldn't be much of a goody-goody anymore. Sadly I don't think that Jin is the father of the baby.

Best part last night was the whole Red Sox thing.

I agree, Jae is probably the father of the baby - unless there's some other explanation like a smoke monster impregnation. :)

The opening scene was great -- showed that Sun ISN'T as innocent as we all believed she was -- if she was willing to let the maid get fired, what did that say about her? She'd do anything to protect herself. Add that to her sleeping with Jae (which we all pretty much suspected anyway) and it doesn't paint the prettiest picture of her.

Love the stuff with Ben at the end. The Red Sox line was awesome.

Kate/Sawyer -- very interesting dynamic. It was funny, after Sawyer kissed her Caitie called me and said "That was dumb, why did he do that?" -- and then they actually ANSWERED the question later on! It didn't take three weeks or three years for an actual ANSWER! Loved the strawberries/fish biscuit lines.

Were Ben and Juliet married? ("You never made soup for me...")

I'm still questioning the island's healing power. If the island DOES have these restorative powers and can cure Locke's legs and Rose's cancer -- why are Ben's lips STILL cut? Shouldn't they have healed by now? It's been a WHILE since he got those scars, even in Lost time. There's no way this is a production issue - those scars are intentional...
