^^Yes, i think Karl (the boy from the cage) is Alex's boyfriend. But when Ben said "Did Alex ask about me?" (and Juliet said "no"), there's definitely some relationship there. I think Ben is her Dad. Funny thing is Alex DID ask about Ben. When she was in the cage area she said "I want to talk to Ben." So Juliet is lying.
singingwendy - that's a good theory about the whole Kate/Sawyer thing. It's like the Others set it up so that they would "mate." And they have Jack there too to see who Kate would better mate with. They are obsessed with babies, those Others. And, coincidently, (ha - NOT, this is LOST after all!) Juliet is a fertility doctor.
I can't remember what story Jack told her when she was sewing up his cut. I will have to drag out the Season 1 DVDs. Although I think someone borrowed them! Anyone remember?

I don't think so. According to one of teh "others" ( I can't remember who), Jack wasn't even on "the original list" of castaways to kidnap. I think Jack was there solely because of his ability to help Ben. The fact that he was interested in Kate just added additional drama to the whole situation.
and I can't remember the story either...although, maybe we didnt' see the story...is that possible?
Oh no, I wasn't trying to say that she didn't have some sort of relationship with Ben. I will actually be surprised if she doesn't have some type of deeper relationship with Ben, be it romantic or something else.
EDIT: Stupid slow computer. :) I agree with Peach.

He did tell some kind of story. I can't remember. I do remember Kate saying she sewed the drapes in her apartment.
Hopefully, my DVDs aren't out on loan and I can check up on that one...
Easter Egg - someone told me Kate's pregnancy test in the flashback was a Widmore test.
I thought last nights episode was very strong.
Yes it was slow, but I think it needed to be.
Kate's backstory actually interested me for once.
Jack definitely told her a story about how he used to be really afraid before he did surgery, I can't remeber much of it now, but according to ew Kate said she would have "run."
Here's the story that Jack told Kate:
Well, fear's sort of an odd thing. When I was in residency my first solo procedure was a spinal surgery on a 16 year old kid, a girl. And at the end, after 13 hours, I was closing her up and I, I accidentally ripped her dural sac, shredded the base of the spine where all the nerves come together, membrane as thin as tissue. And so it ripped open and the nerves just spilled out of her like angel hair pasta, spinal fluid flowing out of her and I: and the terror was just so crazy. So real. And I knew I had to deal with it. (He's crying). So I just made a choice. I'd let the fear in, let it take over, let it do its thing, but only for 5 seconds, that's all I was going to give it. So I started to count, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Then it was gone. I went back to work, sewed her up and she was fine.

I tend to enjoy Kate's flashbacks but this one I thought was slow and a bit pointless. I like it better when the flashbacks establish some relevance with why they are on the island though it was interesting to see how she got the ticket to go to Sidney.
How can Alex be Ben's daughter? Didn't Danielle say that her husband died when the others took her daughter? Unless she thought Ben was dead.
Have they ever explained how Danielle's team died or what kind of disease Aaron had?
I thought her ticket was for Costa Rica.

Oh so they were living in Sidney then? I honestly did not pay attention to what the ticket said, I just assumed since the airline was Oceanica that they were going to Australia.

Thanks enjolras for the story!
The ticket was on Oceanic, but they were going from Miami to Costa Rica. Maybe she traded it in for the ticket to Sydney.

Maybe Danielle thinks Ben is dead. OR, maybe Ben isn't her husband and someone else was. He could still be Alex's father!
Another thought - when the Others took Alex, Ben more or less adopted Alex. Who knows. I never know what to believe (which is what makes this show so much fun).

She didn't trade the ticket in. She had been caught by the police by that time, remember? She was in cuffs on the plane, and had a guard with her.
But, a few hours later... it has just occured to me that, of course, she does have to GET to Sydney before she gets caught. Nevermind the first comment! :)

However, it would be pretty stupid for someone who just told her cop boyfriend that she's a fugitive to take the tickets he bought for their honeymoon and try to change them for a flight for Australia. I don't think Kate's stupid enough to leave that big a paper trail.
I think that the fact that the tickets were Oceanic was just another drop in the "we're all connected" bucket.
Also....Ben may not be Alex's REAL father, but she may think he is. After all, she was taken from Danielle shortly after she was born.

Waiting with bated breath for a little 4 8 15 16 23 42!
Can't wait! I've been excited about this for weeks! It's supposed to be a GREAT episode.
Wow. That episode was amazing. That room Carl was in was crazy
And I feel really bad for Juliet.
What did everyone think?
Personally, I really liked the episode. Juliet has become my favorite character this season and I found it very interesting learning more about her past, especially seeing how much she has really transformed emotionally. She is obviously a much stronger person now than we saw in her flashback. I'm assuming when we saw her crying in the first scene of the first episode this season it was because she wants off that island. Can't say I blame her there. Everything that was going on with her sister and such....it seems like it would be a lot to just leave behind.
I find it doubtful that Ben is going to let her leave. She's become too important in the storyline. I'm sure he'll find some way to screw her over in the end.

Great episode!
The room with Karl was super-creepy. I was trying to catch the images because I'm sure there are clues.
It was interesting to see Juliet's past. She's so controlled on the island, and to see her falling apart emotionally in her past life was interesting and made her more human.
Her ex-husband - where do I know that guy from? I have seen that actor before.
And, I guess we've learned that Ben is Alex's Dad, at least in practice if not genetically.
just a little off topic... but i totally met sayid last night. i was at work and putting stuff away and here, "excuse me," and turn around and he was just standing there. he has a great british accent. met hurley last year too. i'm waiting for matthew fox to come in... then i'll make a big deal.
Really enjoyed this episode.
I think it was another glimpse into the "even though you've been given a second chance on this island, down deep, people never chance" idea they've been toying with. Even though Juliet said she wanted Ben dead, she realized she's not a leader. Her current relationship with Ben was almost a mirror image of the one she had with her ex-husband. She counts on others to make a change for her in her life.
And this is fhe first they've introduced the whole "Mittel" and "Mittelwerk" concept into the TV show. There was a Dr. Mittelwerk in the one website, and I think he was mentioned in the "Bad Twin" also. And how creepy was it that they ran over Juliet's ex-husband to get her to go work for them?
I'm not sure what to think of the room that Karl was in. It was your typical scene of brainwashing...straight out of "A Clockwork Orange". I'm sure some of the other sites are already analyzing all the images. I found it the mention of God and the descendants of Jacob interesting, and wonder how that relates to the scriptures on Eko's staff.
So...what's the thought on Karl? Good guy? Bad guy? another plant in the camp like Ethan was???
Also...obviously Juliet's research was creating fertility in non-fertile people. Where do you think they're hiding all the children they've created on the island????
Peach, Broadway vet Zeljko Ivanek played Juliet's ex.

There is one question that lingers for me re: the Others, and maybe it was answered before and I missed it.
The Others were supposed to be 'super' human in a way, right? Super strength. No tracks when they walk. The whispers one hears when they are nearby. But now all that has gone by the wayside, and they are normal people.
Did I miss something?
I've always thought that there is more than one group of 'others"
Oooh...maybe that group of "others" are genetically engeneered people that have special abilities, and Juliet was brought on board to help tinker with and refine some of their properties, as well as to help breed them........
Just a thought!
