First, the removal of safer sex information from the Center for Disease Control's website.

Second, the push for amending the Constitution in order to discriminate against a segment of the population.

Now, this.

Tell me again why I and all gay and lesbian Americans shouldn't feel absolute hatred for this administration?

It's an appointee, people... not Bush himself. It has yet to be determined if Bush even is aware of this yet. If he is, and he lets it happen, then I am ashamed. I don't believe that anyone could be fired as a result? Can that even happen in this day and age? God.

Even politically savvy and informed people are not fully aware of the hostility in this country towards gay and lesbian Americans.

And transgendered is worse. In 46 states, one can be fired because of their gender identity disorder.

OK...so I read up a little on this one. The SSA is who we should write to. They are in negotiations with the worker's union about their new contract...which HAD been under the executive order from Clinton to not fire anyone on the basis of sexual orientation. However, there is a possibility that Bush can with one statement recuse that law, in which case the SSA could fire anyone. If that happens, the SSA would only be aco****able to itself, and not the president as to whether or not they want to fire a BLGT person.

The negotitations are ongoing as we speak, so write to the SSA soon on this one.

We are having crammed down our throats 24 hours a day how it's not even acceptable to question the war in Iraq because it's about freedom and 'that's worth fighting for.' Well, you know what? THIS is about freedom! My freedom! A LOT of people's freedom!

You ask, "Or you'll do what?" Well, the answer may be - sooner than you think - that we by fu*king god will do whatever we HAVE to to be treated like all the rest of the supposed NORMAL ones in this society!!!!

Oh puleeeeeze, Louise, don't be disingenuous. Using gays as a scapegoat is the clear desire of the White House--putting Dick Cheney in a precarious position because of his lesbian daughter.

Why else do you think the Log Cabin Republicans have displayed a rare showing of guts and stated that they will NOT support Bush in this election.

If Bush doesn't outright hate gays, then even worse--he is clearly willing to sacrifice our civil rights so that he can score points with conservative Republicans.

Calling someon irrational over this is kind of insulting. Truly. You do not even begin to understand what it means to not be equally protected under the law. It is dehumanizing. That's the only word for it.

How can one be expected to behave 'rationally' in regards to this? You yourself thought this was a non-issue because you, as a rational, thinking human being, assumed that you can't be fired just for being gay. But you can.

Talk about irrational.

Touchme - I think you are correct that it would lessen our souls to have it reduced to a violent struggle. HOWEVER, Gandhi gave the world the theories of 'militant nonviolence' - and I, for one, am absolutely ready to be a little 'nonviolent'.

How could anyone expect this to end peacefully? All you have to do is go to the movies or watch TV to realize that Americans have become increasingly responsive to violence and crave more, the bloodier, the better. While being peaceful is certainly respectable, you have to know your enemy and what they will react and respond to. Right-wing, radical Republican Christians will not respond to peaceful demonstrations. They will just sit back and laugh.

I guess my issue is I don't view another human being (even a Republican person) as my enemy. They just do not understand. Violence incites more violence...nothing in history says anything but that. It's time we stopped with that silly talk, and start growing up and being rational.

There is no way to 'win' a physical confrontation in this issue. However, I think what people DO respond to is anything disrupting their money. I lived in Colorado during the boycott of that state over Ammendment 2 - believe me, it's why it ended up being defeated in the long run.

What we need is someone or something that can organize on a national level - and some spark to set it all off. I just saw Rosa Parks name in the news recently - all she was was a woman who sat where she wanted to instead of where she was told.

problem with that is you may not view them as the enemy, but they certainly view you (I'm making the assumption you're gay) as the enemy.

I'm all for non-violent, effective protest. But look what happened here when it was even suggested that gay and lesbian performers in Broadway shows not show up for work the day they were suppose to perform for the delegates of the RNC. People think 'That's just awful! Republicans deserve to see a show!'

Even our Union ordered everyone to show up.

So what do you suggest that would be effective, touch?
