Letterman: Let's talk about the, everyone's all excited about the, the mid-season's election. How do you see that going down?
O'Reilly: Well, I think that the Democrats will win uh and improve their situation. Um, the Senate I don't think they'll take, the House could go either way. It's gonna be close.
Letterman: And uh, the reason for this, now more than ever, is what?
O'Reilly: People are angry about Iraq. And they feel we need a change. And whenever you have a situation where Americans are - I used the word on the Factor tonight, I used the word "depressed." People don't want to watch the news, don't want to hear about Iraq, don't want to hear about Iran, about the nutty North Korean guy. They wanna watch Bowling for Dollars, Dialing for uh the Dancing with the Stars... are you gonna be on that?
Letterman: I'm sorry?
O'Reilly: Are you gonna be on the Dancing with the Stars thing?
Letterman: You bonehead.
O'Reilly: I saw it, I saw it. I teed you right up for that.
Letterman: I mean, it's just, it's just more a choice of what to watch on television.
O'Reilly: I think people are depressed.
Letterman: People are depressed. And rightly so because we have a failed policy and Americans, God bless them, are over there, volunteering to have joined the Army, are over there and giving their lives nearly to the number of 3,000 Americans so far, so yes... people are depressed, but it's not because they want to watch Dancing with the Stars.
...
Letterman: Let me ask you a question — was there more heinous, more dangerous violence taking place before in Iraq, or is there more heinous, dangerous violence taking place now in Iraq?
O'Reilly: Oh, stop it. Saddam Hussein slaughtered 300,000 to 400,000 people, all right, so knock it off… It isn't so black and white, Dave — it isn't, 'We're a bad country. Bush is an evil liar.' That's not true.
Letterman: I didn't say he was an evil liar. You're putting words in my mouth, just the way you put artificial facts in your head!
Letterman vs. O’Reilly…Round Two…Fight!
So glad someone stands up to O'Reilly, he gets away with murder that guy.

Hot damn. *wipes tear from eye* That's beautiful. And boy does O'Reilly need to learn the difference between "cause" and "effect".
I did not see their first encounter. Thought this was pretty tame after all the hype. Both made valid points. I know O Reilly is GWB'S half brother to one & all on the board but that is my take on it
It was surprisingly something missing on this board - real debate & discussion. Who would have thought. I hope they do it again .

"It was surprisingly something missing on this board - real debate & discussion."
It happens all the time on this board. I guess it's not "real" when you repeat Rupert Murdoch/NY Post headlines and people don't reply, "Wow, yeah, YOU'VE made a very good analysis and insightful point that you've articulated brilliantly."
Of course Dakin will claim it was O'Reilly who mopped the floor with Lettermen and cry victory and 10 points for the good guys. Lettermen was awsome! I really think O'Reilly is in on the joke and just doesn't care. Why else would he keep going onto his show? Remember Dave use to have Richard Simmonds on all the time just to make him look like an ass? Richard went along with it like Regis and Tony Randal use to do. WHo knows, Maybe O'Reilly has a slight man crush on Dave.
"It happens all the time on this board."
Debate doesnt happen on this board, what happens is one side butchering alive anyone who has a differing opinion, no matter how tame or outrageous the other opinion is. That's not a rea ldebate.
I can respect many articulate people whose opinions differ from mine. But I can not respect Bill O'Reilly, who is trying to divide this country more than it is to sell books and keep his ratings up. He was absolutely horrendous on Oprah. And the funny thing is that he kept contradicting himself. He's a phony and does a great disservice to this country.

FW: Aw, man...now you're gonna get the thread deleted. =(
We can't even mention YouTube?
I thought everyone was being funny by "the site that shall not be named".
That's so weird.
It's like saying crap.
God and I both know what you *want* to say, so just say it.
Yes. It is there to be watched and pretty readily findable. Letterman has been out of my stream of consciousness for a long time, but he was excellent.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.
