This is going to be a weird story, but I figured reaching out doesn't hurt. My parents were vacationing down in Tennessee in The Great Smokey Mountains this week and they found a beagle wandering around where they were one day. They were over the border in North Carolina when they found him. They decided to take him because it was in a really remote area where there were no homes or anything else. They did check around down there with vets and pounds to see if anyone was missing him. They had no luck, so they brought him home to our house in New Jersey. They do have people down there that are looking for his owner though.
So, I guess I'm posting this here to see if maybe someone is or knows someone in that area who is missing a dog. I'm not sure of exact location. I think it was near Lake Fontana, since that's what we're calling him. It's a male purebred beagle. Probably about 25 lbs or so. If this sounds familiar, private message me. We may end up keeping him, but it would be nice if we could get him back to his original owner, if possible.
I would suggest you try facebook and look up animal rescues for the area where the dog was found. You would be surprised just how far they reach in finding lost dogs their homes.
Thanks for the suggestions. My parents actually went through all of that already. They found only 1 no kill shelter down there. They couldn't take him due to space. But, they did put him on their Facebook page. According to the person they spoke to, dogs get abandoned there all the time and nobody cares. It's disturbing because I can't imagine how many feral dogs are in the woods there.
It is suspected that he was abandoned because he was waiting around where he was found like he was waiting for his owner to come back versus wandering. And the poor guy has hook worms and fleas. He was also dehydrated and anemic, probably from the hook worms. So we are treating him now with meds and special food. He is really sweet. Except he has poor table manners.
