re: MAD MEN

Interesting. Just read on another forum that "Connie", the man Don meets behind the bar, was Conrad Hilton Sr.

re: MAD MEN

OK I'm confused: what was the photo Don was looking at tonight? Archie and Abigal 1928?
#253

re: MAD MEN

Archie was Dick Whitman's dad (his mother's client). After his mother died in childbirth, he remarried Abigail (Dick's stepmother). She is mother to Dick/Don's half brother. (who showed up in season one)

re: MAD MEN

Last night's episode was among the best. Very focused and incident-rich. I was riveted to everything in it, especially the grandpa stuff -- and Sal's bedroom rendition of Ann-Maragaret's Birdie come-on for his nightie-clad wife, done without a shred of camp. Her facial reaction was brilliant (she's a terrific actor).

re: MAD MEN

Terrific episode, Auggie. I loved the dynamic between Sally and her grandpa. Poor kid. She was finally being nurtured and paid attention to by an adult relative and he dies. He may have been losing it, but I think Gene would have been very good for Sally. He made her feel like she was special. And she got to be an adventurous little badass--driving at nine! Ha.

Poor Kitty. That actress is excellent...her facial reaction was so subtle and controlled I couldn't distinguish the exact moment she realized what was up. But it was there.

I felt awful for Sal during the screening, having to hear the executives saying, "Something's just not there...something's not right." Trying to figure out why it looked and sounded perfect and by all appearances it SHOULD be spot on, but it's off. That echoes Sal and Kitty's marriage. This was the second time Mad Men referenced this...the first was when Ken had dinner at their apartment. I can't wait to see how they handle this. I wouldn't be surprised if she stayed with him and never said another word. I feel for both of them.

re: MAD MEN

Thanks, Blue. I feel like an idiot for not catching that. I guess I forgot their names.

All and all, loved the episode and Sally is quickly becoming my favorite character.

re: MAD MEN

Best episode this season so far. LOVED the bedroom scene wth Sal.

The only thing I wish was that there was a storyline that you were following with anticipation. The first two seasons I couldn't wait to learn more the next week.

btw, when did Pete and Don start respecting each other? Even liking each other it seems. Was it when Pete told him about Ducky's plans?

re: MAD MEN

I missed Kitty's reaction in the bedroom scene, too. Wasn't paying close enough attention. Just went back and watched that scene. Stunning.

re: MAD MEN

Poor Sally...when she went off in the kitchen I got a little teary...when her and Gene were eating ice cream and talking about how Betty was fat and her mother made her walk home from the store I felt bad for Betty and now know where she gets it from

Also the scene between Kitty and Sal was perfection

re: MAD MEN

Why did the prison guard look down and away when he saw Don in the hallway? I thought something horrible happened to the baby but nothing really came of that.

re: MAD MEN

Clever, I thought the very same thing!! Strange...and I loved the whole childbirth thing...I am SOO glad I didn't have my kids back then. How different it is now.

re: MAD MEN

I'm clueless on why the other dad ignored Don too. Maybe because he was a "tough guy" and was embarrassed to have been vulnerable in front of Don?

I re-wound my DVR and re-watched her several times and she was flawless. The first time I watched it, I thought, "When did she catch on? Did I miss something?" She was perfect!

And I don't know, but I didn't see a baby in the mother's lap as the prision guard was wheeling her out, so, I assumed the baby didn't make it.

re: MAD MEN

WTF? What is happening to our posts this morning?
#267

re: MAD MEN

I am fairly sure that I posted to this thread last night. I'm dying to discuss last night's episode with someone. Anyone.

And if you haven't watched yet, please stick with it all the way through until the last shot of next week's coming attractions.

It is hitting the fan!

One word. Lawnmower.

re: MAD MEN

Definitely, blueroses. That was priceless.

re: MAD MEN

Just watched it....that lawnmower scene was CRAZY! And please say it isn't so that Joan is gone! re: MAD MEN

re: MAD MEN

Joan is getting some of the best writing this season, so she had better stay.

Am I the only one who thinks they have dumbed Peggy down a little bit so far? She seemed to have her act together to a greater degree last season than presently.

And Don is becoming a first rate Dad - that's a surprise to me.

re: MAD MEN

Who else is INFURIATED with Don? I am loathing him this season.

Poor Sal!

re: MAD MEN

Also Betty what a real *itch. I feel for Sal, and D&B's kids.

re: MAD MEN

Sal gets sexually harassed and Don basically tells him he should have just slept with the client. I think his disgusted "you people" is what got to me the most.

#275

re: MAD MEN

Yeah, the "you people" really got me. Betty also with the "Maybe it is not the time for Civil Rights" Can not stand her. "My girl will be back soon" to the guy from the governor's office "She works for me, not for you!" to Bobby (who was also way beyond rude to an elder. I want to smack her!
