Sneering references to homosexuality are nothing new on MAD MEN -- a recent re-watch of Season Five in preparation for the new season was very interesting. Gay men are certainly depicted and talked about ("He's very flamboyant"), and always in very sneering condescending offensive ways.
Which is of course the point. Since Season Six seems set in '68, I wonder if a trip to THE BOYS IN THE BAND is in the cards for Don & Megan, or something like that. Or maybe they'll jump ahead 18 months and mention those annoying riots in the Village.
And FWIW, I loved the first episode of the new season. I liked the games they played with chronology, and the way they managed to introduce new characters in interesting ways. Can't wait to see what happens with the new guy in the office, the pushy little accountant. And I didn't find the episode to be at all meandering or lacking in focus -- I was held from the start.
