Madonna at the Super Bowl

Looked great! Of course she had to lip-synch, but she might have had more live vocals on the arena's sound system compared to our TV's. I didn't like the Vogue remix, but I liked the song choice and that entrance. Wow! I like Music, but having LMFAO there and remixing it so much was a tad ridiculous. I am still unsure about the new song, but give me a good drum beat and Nicki Minaj and I'm sold. M.I.A. really didn't deserve the controversy, it was not a big deal at all. I thought the segue from drums in to Like A Prayer was odd. I liked Like A Prayer, but I didn't get why Cee Lo was there.

If I was her, I would have added Ray of Light, Hung Up, and/or 4 Minutes (so she could have brought out Justin). She could have done something older to, like Lucky Star, Burning Up, or even Material Girl. But she looked great and it was a great show.

Who should be the next halftime show artist? I'm pulling for Pink, Britney, or Gaga. Pink is a great performer, Britney is universally loved/has a huge repertoire of hits, and Gaga is this generation's Madonna.

Hey, I'm of this generation and Madonna is my Madonna.

"Yeah, her "Oh, Mickey, you're so fine" moment was really odd. Did she choose that because she was at a football game?"

She was a cheerleader in high school. And there was no faux accent while she was here in the (home turf) Midwest.

According to my niece, who was there, the only audible thing in the stadium was the bass... even the pre-recorded vocals were drowned out there.

Well some have pointed out how similar Madonna's pompom moment was to Kylie Mingoeu's of a few years back (a concert Madonna was spotted at in several dates)--as was of course the whole Grecian Gods/gladiator element. Because you know Madonna invented Greek mythology.

Well if Madonna's show is half as good as Kylie's last tour, it will have been worth giving up my $300 handbag.

"She could have brought out Justin"

That worked really well for Janet Jackson.

And so it goes ...

The AP reports "Madonna: Not happy about M.I.A.'s gesture." Madge is quoted as saying about the offending finger, "I understand it's kind of punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity, it seemed negative."

Now, I find this fascinating... I've mentioned this before in threads about Madonna. I saw the Drowned World, American Life and Confessions tours. The one thing all three had in common was Madonna making a biiiiiig point of flipping off the audience. Like, it was important to her to do it. To aim the negative gesture at the people paying HUGE amounts of money, who probably worked all year and saved their pennies to see her because she's worth it. I dunno. She can really be an awful person.

Jay, I knew there was a reason I liked you :P

And yes, that statement about the finger is beyond hypocritical. Madonna, right around the point she started playing the guitar suddenly was all about shouting "**** you" and flipping the bird at audience members. It's honestly always kinda bugged me because it has no context and yet many fans lap it up and cheer all the louder when she does.

It was particularly awful on the American Life tour, which was the one where she "dedicated this to you, my fahhhhhhhhhnns" before warbling through "Crazy for You" while pointing and smiling uncomfortably. On the other hand, you could tell she really meant the middle finger.

I never thought any of the "F*** you, motherf***ers", etc. was directed at the fans. All of that sort of thing seemed clearly aimed at her critics/haters or to be "punk rock and everything" which indeed makes her comment about MIA hypocritical. She's lucky she got MIA to dance around like a cheerleader at all.

Regardless, that was a fantastic half-time show and hopefully the album will be great. I don't hate the new song, but I agree it's a bit fluffy.

The difference is Namo that on her tours it's her show, her fans, her rules. She can do what she likes. The Superbowl is a different story, she clearly made a point of keeping the show safe for the family and as she said in her interview she saw the show and the night all been very positive, it was kinda un needed.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna

What do you get when you hire MIA as a contract player? MIA as a contract player.

Somehow that slipped the mind of The World's Smartest Businesswoman?

There's a really good interview with Madonna in The Advocate, in which she actually discusses the drift away from her entwined relationship with the gay community.

I like how she comes across in the interview, although I still get a little riled about her attraction to women who flirt with fascism while claiming she knows nothing about them when making (or wanting to make) a movie about them.

Also, she needs to learn to regulate her negativity toward pop stars she sees as a threat.
