No, Bette gets very mad when anybody touches her spokes.

Was expecting to be annoyed by the whole thing and--with the exception of CeeLo Green (him again??) and the "World Peace" at the end--found it to be damn near flawless. "Gimme All Your Luvvin'" was in every way superior to the lame video. Anyone who says they would prefer to see Elton John trotted out of his cell of bitterness or yet another Gaga appearance needs to have their head examined. This is the half-time show all future prospects will be measured against.

Extra kudos to whoever designed the cool video projections.

Oh...the game was pretty good, too!

Most of the football fans I now (95% male and love to act gruntish) consciously ignored the half-time show. Admittedly, they hate any half-time show (the NFL post-Janet Jackson has been way too conscious with their choices) but they knew Madonna was not for them the moment the Centurions came marching in. The few who paid attention hated the new song and wished it was just a greatest hits set but they praised its production values. Many of them joked they could not wait for Lady Gaga to do the half-time show in 2040.

As someone who half-assed her way through a Vegas show while wearing sneakers on her feet, Ms. Midler can suck it. Haters gonna hate.

The answer to 'What do you expect when she's wearing five inch heels?' is 'Go to f*cking LaDuca and buy a pair of pretty character shoes!!!'

I was mostly bored. But boy did I cackle when 'World Peace' showed up. I mean...'World Peace.' That's a running punch line in a Sandra F*cking Bullock movie!

Oh, c'mon...you expect Madonna to get all gooey over "the Rachelle"?

You guys this is getting bad. I put on Tune-Yards's "Whokill" to get the Madonna chant out of my head and it is NOT working.

Well, it does create a fun atmosphere in which to sing about animals.

Fanf*ckingtastic. That is why I'm still a Madonna fan. Best super bowl halftime show in years.

"The cheerleader bit seemed ill-advised...."

That's what I was thinking, Addy. 53 is a bit old to be jumping around with pom pons.

Other than that, I enjoyed it. And I am not a Madonna fan.

Good article.
And, agree, it's a fair assessment.

God, Live Aid.
1985.
I was there.
Wow. Memories.

If she's not careful, Lourdes is going to end up pushing her wheelchair!

"Even as a child I thought watching people lip synch on Bandstand, Soul Train, etc., was stupid. I just don't get what it is we're supposed to be doing? Agreeing that it is real? Pretending it's not a drag tribute with the real person instead of a drag queen look-alike? "

You thought all of that as a child?! How did you even know what a drag queen was?

I blame your parents.

I didn't know about the drag queens, but I swear, I had no patience to sit through a lip synched performance even as a child, and found lip synching in movie musicals absolutely unbearable.

"But then Bette's daughter Sophie would come kick Lourdes's ass"

And while that was going on, Bette and Madge could engage in a wheelchair wrestling marathon.

Madonna at the Super Bowl

These 12 minutes and 41 seconds seem to have redefined Madonna in a way that no one (maybe not even herself AND Liz Rosenberg) could have anticipated.

Simply put, these are the best reviews Madonna has ever received for anything.

Anything.

The American and World Press and (if you can believe this) the Average American Citizen have gone bat**** crazy over her.

As someone who has watched Madonna live numerous time since the start of her career, I could see the hesitation, the nervousness, the lip-synching.

Yes, she has been better.

But here lies the rub.....Does it matter if you've been sensational and no one sees you?

If a Madonna falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

What amazed me is that literally no one else at the bar, no one else I was with, noticed anything but a legendary woman performing at the peak of what her current abilities are.

..and they loved it...

Simply put, the average citizen has not paid much attention to anything Madonna has done in well over 15 years. Because of that fact, she has been reborn! Refreshed! An All American Goddess. A figure of great respect. A Great American.

She can be loved now by everyone. The past is forgiven. The past is now cherished. The future bright as a penny.

In 1993, at the height of the Madonna bashing, she was asked if the vicious and cruel things people say hurt her.

She paused. Smiled and simply said.

"No! Because, when I'm 50, they will all be kissing my ass!!"

Indeed!
