This is the busiest time of year for the postal service. A lot of them are also using their vacation before it expires on 12/31. So, a lot of floaters (seasonal employees and trainees) are handling the mail. So there's a significant delay.
My dad and brother are mail carriers, and they're thoroughly exhausted.

Here in CT (Fairfield County) the mail didn't arrive till 7:30PM last night and still nothing yet for today. I think being Christmas and the mail carrier has to get out of the truck for many deliveries of target packages. Then again very seldom anything of interest in the mail these days. Last night the only piece of mail was the flyer for Tootsie.

Okay, I'm using fake names here for privacy's sake but the situation is real:
I live on Ambrose Road. There is also an Ambrose AVENUE on the other side of town and a woman who lives there has a last name very similar to mine. Also, across the bay, in Davis Park, there's another Ambrose Road. We all share the same ZIP code!

USPS typically delivers my mail around 9:30 pm. It's gotten progressively worse over the decade that I've lived in my current home. When I moved in, mail would arrive at a reasonable time - usually early afternoon. As the years went on, it started arriving mid-afternoon, then late afternoon, then early evening, then around dinner time, and now, I'm sometimes already in bed by the time it arrives.
In the past week, USPS has missed two guaranteed delivery dates for me.

We had a huge problem in the Columbus Circle area where someone was fishing mail out of the post office boxes and getting bank accounts and credit card information. They changed all of the boxes so that there is just a thin slit to slide your mail in. Funny that was not done years ago.
