my thoughts exactly, Jon.
her trollup dress was very selfish and dishonorable.
Mariah Carey:
More class than you can shove in a tube tube!
Mariah's statement about yesterday:
"Just recovering from the day. Still filled w/sadness as we listen to KJLH in LA (Stevie Wonder's radio station) paying tribute to MJ. Trying to sing today was basically impossible for me. I could barely keep myself from crying. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to pull it together and really do it right, but I was literally choked up when I saw him there in front of me.
One thing I know is, we will never really have to say goodbye to MJ. His legacy lives on through his music and the millions of people. He inspired with his timeless music. He will be forever in our hearts."
I was less annoyed by the atrocious singing than I was the silly hand movements.
Still...if you've got 8 octaves in your voice you would like think that you could easily access 1!

She declined large scale touring in her prime and only began live dates when her sales dipped and fans were basically demanding it. She never toured in support of her biggest albums. I don't think she has any training and has shredded her voice. She does not know how to sing consistently well and care for her voice. Her Mimi Tour was plagued with vocal problems that were miraculously cleaned up on the dvd.
Well she said what I thought. It must have been very hard to perform when you had the casket of Michael Jackson sitting right in front of you. That had to be hard. Even Lionel Ritchie cracked during his performance. I even sensed a slight nervousness in John Meyer and he didn't sing.
I agree uncageg, that was a difficult time for anyone to perform and not have emotion messing with their performances. I thought all of them did an incredible job and all the songs were so meaningful.
She is dreadful now
And the whole world seems to see that except America who keeps sending her soundalike albums and songs to number 1
I remember that performance. It was pretty hot. And Fly Like a Bird is one of my favorites by her.
It seems to me that it was EQUALLY the sight of the gold casket AND Mimi wanting centerstage. I mean, the hair and the hand and the outfit and... I dunno. I think she realized when she started that it was gonna be rough and then tried to make it all about her to compensate and "put on a good show" with the over-riffing and not-quite-there high notes.
P
What?!
"I think she realized when she started that it was gonna be rough and then tried to make it all about her to compensate"
Did we watch the same show?
She hardly riffed at all, and the parts where she ususally riffs, she remained quiet. How did she make it all about herself?
That was not emotion. Her voice is shot from years of singing incorrectly.
Only one who knows NOTHING about vocal technique, or are COMPLETELY unfamiliar with the actual notes of that classic song, would say that her performance contained "barely any riffing". PUH-LEASE. It was ONLY riffing. And spoke-sung riffing to boot, not even the usually melisima we get from Mimi.
Did you switch purses with Whitney by mistake at the ceremony?
P
How did she make it all about herself?
You didn't answer my question, but went on to make me sound like I have no idea what music is.
I remember reading somewhere that she has nodules. She said she uses them to hit high notes. (Wtf?)
Still no answer to my question...
Also, funny how NO ONE mentioned STevie Wonder.
Talk about trying to find your key...
His last note was all over the place.
"the hair and the hand and the outfit and..."
I'd never heard Mariah Carey sing before that... but it's nice to know that that's not her best, because when I heard her at the Memorial, I thought, "... that's the great voice I keep hearing about? Really?"
On the bright side, now I know who the Lady of the Lake from Spamalot is parodying...
"I think she realized when she started that it was gonna be rough and then tried to make it all about her to compensate and "put on a good show" with the over-riffing and not-quite-there high notes.
So the hair, the hand, and the outfit were okay until she started to sing?
Then she made it all about that?
When you can figure out what you really mean, THEN post.
When you become the Queen of All you can THEN tell me how to post, darling.
The outfit and look was a mess long before she opened her mouth!
Why defend this performance? She even admits it was terrible!
Mimi ALWAYS makes it about herself. It's ok, but it still exists... I would expect no less from her, frankly. It was a bad performance and I understand what she must've been going through... but it is what it is. Mariah's talent OCCASSIONALLY supercedes her image but if it doesn't, and it didn't here, she has Mimi to fall back on. She did.
P
Don't call me darling, it just makes you look queeny.
