Rush takes on Katie Couric:

Thanks, Katie, I'll try to make it simple:

I believe Democrats have a long history of using victims of various things as POLITICAL spokespeople because they believe they are untouchable, infallible. They are immune from criticism. But when anyone enters the POLITICAL arena of ideas they forfeit the right to be challenged on their participation and message.

I have not met Mr. Fox, do not know him. I have admired his work in film and TV and his appearances on Letterman were howlers. I have nothing personal against him. But I believe his implication that only Democrats want to cure disease(s) is irresponsible (as I believed about John Edwards assuring voters Christopher Reeve would walk if only John Kerry were elected). I think this is ultimately cruel and gives people who suffer these terrible afflictions false hope.

As of now there is NO EVIDENCE that embryonic stem cells even hold promise, while other approaches, such as adult stem cells, already have yielded results. Michael's TV spots mislead and misinform on this. (You might ask him about the gene therapy research at a Chicago hospital which has produced encouraging results on Parkinson's patients. A VIRUS is inserted in the gene, which is then inserted in the brain. The Michael J. Fox Foundations has committed $1.9 million to further research on this...story from earlier this month.)

At least that's one thing we can give Bush - he doesn't exaggerate his lack of brainpower.

Rush telling it like it is!! Sock it to 'em. Give 'em Hell Rush!

I did NOT mock or make fun of Mr. Fox. I have seen him many times on TV but never have I seen him as he appears in the ads. I read from his own book that he will not take his medications before certain appearances (Senate, 1999) in order to illustrate the ravages of Parkinson's, which I understand and applaud. So the concept of manipulating meds has been stated by Mr. Fox, which is what caused me to question his appearance in his ads.

He is stumping for Democrats, in the political arena, and is therefore open to analysis and criticism as we all are. His suffering is NOT fair game and I am sorry if people drew that conclusion about my comments, but I believe this happens precisely because NO criticism of victims is ever allowed, at all, which as I say is the Democrat strategy in putting them forward.

Michael J. Fox says he wasn't "off his medication or acting" in an ad for a Democratic political candidate, as Rush Limbaugh has charged, but was in fact overmedicated.

In a CBS Evening News interview with Katie Couric on Thursday, Fox explained that the effects of his medication are hard to predict: "I just take it and it kicks in when it kicks in. Sometimes it kicks in too hard and then you get what's called dyskinesia, which is that rocking motion."

No where does Fox admit that he intentionally over medicated...so you are only using conjecture to try and make your point...facts are more difficult for you to come up with.

The articles I cited on page 2 refute this statement.

I don't know if this has already been posted, but....
...now Jesus is speaking out against MJ Fox!

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Why are people still posting on this thread? Isn't that just giving it what it wants?

"Too highly medicated, a political stunt, a fraud, it's all the same in Foley land."

All I'm asking for is a simple quote, or fact to back up your statements. But, what I get is the same ole rhetoric you've been spewing ad nauseum.

If you had the facts, I'm sure you'd be the first to post them, but since you don't seem to have anything to back up your bizzare statements, they're just so much hot air.

This is the Michael J. Fox quote.

"In a CBS Evening News interview with Katie Couric on Thursday, Fox explained that the effects of his medication are hard to predict: "I just take it and it kicks in when it kicks in. Sometimes it kicks in too hard and then you get what's called dyskinesia, which is that rocking motion."

Show me anywhere in that quote where he says that he over-medicated on purpose.

You are saying that he doesn't know how to take his own medicine?

You are saying that there was no other day or time to tape the commercial except when he was tripped out on his own medicine?

Please, surely you aren't that foolish.

Having a brother who also suffers from Parkinsons, I can say without question, that the drugs don't always affect you the same way twice. Somedays on his meds he's pretty much okay, others he's not so good, the dosage doesn't change, but his reaction to them does. Unfortunately, dealing with this disease is not just black and white...But that's beside the point.

You've been harping that he admitted to over medicating, without any proof of him actually saying that he did. So, you can try to change the subject, by implying that I'm foolish for beliveing him, but, that still doesn't answer the simple question.

Where does Michael J. Fox say that he purposely over-medicated before he shot that commercial. All I want is a little proof, if you can find me that, then I'll happily say OK you're right. But, until then your still spouting nothing but hot air.

And I have friends who are ill too. You are not an unimpeachable source. I'm sorry about your brother.

That doesn't make you immune from criticism.

Fox is not only supporting a cloning bill in Missouri, he is totally disingenious in this matter. If he were sincere, he would not have over medicated, or allowed himself to be taped while over medicated.

Still, not an answer to the query. You can evade the question if you like. But, that doesn't help your cause, when you set yourself up as an honest Republican.

As far as being an unimpechable source, I never set myself up as that. What I did do was relate my own personal experience, with someone who has Parkinsons.

I assume, that Michael Fox, being an adult suffering from this disease has thought long and hard about how he wishes to be viewed by the general public. I hardly find it disingenious to be filmed showing the symptoms of a disease that he suffers from. Whether it be on a good day, or bad day. The fact of the matter is, he probably has both. Why not let people see it at it's worst? You keep stating that he over medicated...but in his quote he says nothing of the kind. Those are your words not his.

Once again, an evasion of a simple question.

Give me a fact, a simple quote of admission that he purposely over medicated. You obviously don't have one. It's easier for you to parrot Rush Limbaugh than to admit that he never said the things that you attribute to him.

Another honest Republican. Uh-huh!

"I did NOT mock or make fun of Mr. Fox."

Really? Here's another quote by Limbaugh: "In this commercial, he is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He is moving all around and shaking. And it’s purely an act." As any of us who have seen the clip of him making this statement knows, he makes it while physically imitating Fox's symptoms. Mockingly.

I'd like to know what the Righties mean when they talk about the Democrats "parading victims who are untouchable sources" in debates. It's not the Democrats who say that people who disagree with them Hate America or are Godless or are Supporting the Terrorists.

I know Ann Coulter uses this argument all the time about 9/11, But the 9/11 widows she loathes so much were just one small voice on the other side; the Republican national convention featured 47 different 9/11 victims speaking at the event endorsing President Bush as well as literally hundreds of firemen, policemen and other repsonders featured in prerecorded videos and TV spots. And I don't think the Democrats gave them a pass because one COULDN'T smear such people, but that it's faily reprehensible to. (And it's the same with Iraq: Bush can line up wounded veterans from here to El Paso to sing his praises, but let Jack Murtha take an opposing view and suddenly the right screams "foul!" Did you notice how many times our friend Mr. Dakin invokes Murtha's name in this completely unrelated discussion? It's because the Republicans are terrified of a war hero speaking out against the war, so they can not pass up a chance to impeach him, no matter how.)

I am glad however to see a smattering of facts as this debate progresses, even if some of them are rather spurious. Generally one doesn't win politcal debates by imitating and mocking your opponant, Rush Limbaugh's tactics to the contrary.

Well, it's interesting that you would say that when exposing Michael Dukakis, All Gore, John Kerry, and other liberal kooks (Jimmy Carter) is precisely waht defeated them.

Ronald Reagan won all his debates with liberals by exposing their intellectual foolishness.
