Anyone here remember back in 2000 when Drudge posted on his website that Al Gore and Tipper were opening up a Diner? It was a total lie. Drudge kept it up on his site for a bout 2 days. the NY Post also ran the story. Drudge never appologized or mentioned his error at all.

He did the same thing with Sidney Blumenthal. I think he accused him of beating his wife.

Dakin,like Drudge, is a liar. if the liberal websites actually said these things he would have posted numerous links backing this up. It was too easy to say "They must have taken them down".

Your "Swift Boat tactics" are getting old. Its the GOP way to make outrageous claims without backing them up and pray that they stick. Doesn't matter if its true, as long as the lie is out there and its in people's minds til election day. After that you can appologize and claim you mis spoke or whatever, but saying whatever you want in order to discredit your opponent is the GOP way nowadays and sadly it seems to work. After all Karl Rove wrote the book on it.

Your credibilty will be challenged here. If I went to Freerepublic.com and posted anti conservative posts how long would I last? And you LOVE to preach that liberals don't allow free speech. Puh-lease!

The plain fact is that embryonic stem cell research is proving to be a bust. There are currently 72 therapies showing human benefits using adult stem cells and zero using embryonic stem cells. Scientifically-minded readers can review this medical journal article on the status of adult stem cell research. Adult stem cell therapies are already being advertised and promoted while no such treatments are even remotely in prospect for embryonic stem cell research.

The fact is that adult stem cells have already produced remarkable cures, whereas embryonic stem cells have failed. This should come as no great surprise to anyone with a background in high school biology.When an embryo is created by the union of the sperm and egg, the cells begin to divide, creating embryonic stem cells from which all future tissues and organs are derived. Within days, the embryonic cells differentiate into three cell layers – ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm. Cells in these layers continue to differentiate into tissues and organs. As the embryo matures into a fetus, child, and adult, some undifferentiated cells of the three types remain in various tissues such as bone marrow, fat, skin and olfactory tissue.

These adult stem cells are multipotent: they have the ability to turn into a variety of types of tissues. Successful stem cell therapies cause the DNA in the adult stem cells to further differentiate into more specific types of cells. There is no point in getting the adult stem cell to turn into a less differentiated type of cell, or using the more primitive embryonic stem cells. This would be going backward, in the opposite direction of providing a clinically useful therapy. Difficulties abound with proposed embryonic stem cell therapies. The growth of the more primitive embryonic stem cells is more difficult to control and leads to tumor formation. Recent research suggests brain tumors may result. Additionally, the use of embryonic tissue foreign to the patient can potentially lead to problems with immune rejection of tissue, a problem not encountered in using a patient’s own adult stem cells.

Results: 72 therapies to 0. The big goose egg. Nada and Nyet. And the results are obvious to those of us with training in the field, as well as to the reasons why ESCR has utterly failed. So why is the result and the reason for the result that is so obvious so misreported and mistated? Why do people who know better misinform those who are not trained in the field? Why do most people lie? To gain something they cannot have any other way. Snake Oil Salesman have lots of rationals to con people. Greed, attention, God complex….. Who cares why they lie. It is only important to know they do and never, ever trust them to be credible again.

No, RUSH is/was the truth detector. MJ Fox has no science professional, no medical evidence on his side. This is a shameless, Hollywood, dirty trick right before the election.

Ask Fox is he wants to debate the scientific evidence.

Everyone wants research, but there is no proof that it is leading to any cures. And, the government does not have to be the sole source of funding. The research is legal, why don't you spend your time raising money for it?

More than a millon Americans who suffer from the debilitating neurological disorder Parkinson's disease are likely to be among the first to benefit from promising advances in embryonic stem cell research, unless political controversy keeps slowing down the process, scientists said Monday.

"We want to replenish the population of nerve cells that are dying in the brains of Parkinson's victims," Dr. Ole Isacson, a professor of neurology and neuroscience at the Harvard Medical School, said in an interview. "The encouraging recent scientific finding is that human embryo [embryonic] stem cells can be grown into the specific dopamine neuron that dies in Parkinson's, and we know that it can be transplanted and restore function in animal models [rats]."

The progress of science is paved with stories of high hopes and heartbreaks. But in a busy lab at the University of Rochester the two extremes have met in one dazzling yet devastating experiment.

Researchers there have for the first time essentially cured rats of a Parkinson's-like disease using human embryonic stem cells. But 10 weeks into the trial, they discovered brain tumours had begun to grow in every animal treated.

"Here we have this method that works so well to reverse the symptoms of Parkinson's," said lead investigator Steven Goldman, "But no matter how you look at it, it's an expanding mass and that's bad news."

None of the cells growing out of control were cancerous tumours. But as Dr. Goldman pointed out, "In the brain, nothing's benign."
