Posted: 5/30/11 at 12:01pmI want to see this so badly. I was going to go yesterday but Bradley Cooper beckoned me so I saw THE HANGOVER 2 instead.

Posted: 5/30/11 at 3:34pmI saw it last night! Really enchanting film. Really harks back to Allen's older, wacky films. A really wonderful cast (a surprise performance by Nina Arianda who is hysterical in such a subtle way) and a smart script. Probably my favorite Allen film since Bullets Over Broadway.

Posted: 5/30/11 at 6:54pmI hope there is a soundtrack. Kathy Bates deserves an Oscar nom along with the costumes, the screenplay, the cinematography. Adrien Brody is a witty and fun Salvador Dali. :)

I almost wet my pants when they introduced some of the characters - I intentionally had no idea what this film was about going in, and I agree that there needs to be a soundtrack. Loved the live Cole Porter.
Best line was "yea, but you guys are surrealists, of course it makes sense to you!"
It reminded me of Bullets Over Broadway as well. It has the heartfelt tone of his earlier films - there's not as much dark melodrama.

The most delightful film he's made since "Bullets over Broadway"...
My hope is that he gets Europe out of his system - refreshed and renewed - and comes home to make a new string of New York masterpieces.

Posted: 5/31/11 at 12:22pmI saw an interview with him last week where he said he's not done with New York yet and would love to film here again. Here's hoping!!

It's common knowledge Barbra knew Woody from the Open Mike Nights in the 60"s...
I also think it's pretty common knowledge that he wrote the Tracy Ullman part "Small Town Crooks" especially for Barbra who of course turned him down ("I'd love to Woody. But. I'm building a new bathroom - and I can't get away)..
If you watch the film closely - Tracy even talks like Barbra...

Omg, love Small Time Crooks. "Can't you tell fortunes or something? You look like a gypsy!"
He has a particular way of capturing cities without making them look industrial or cold. He does it amazingly with New York, the concrete jungle, but when he films Paris it's just unbelievably sensuous and soft. It made me want to book my flight today!
He even makes the GW bridge look good. Does anyone remember that scene in Manhattan Murder Mystery where they're driving over the bridge to Benny Goodman?

I actually thought Owen Wilson was a great stand-in for Woody himself. I think he's getting a little too old to pull off those roles anymore. It's not as endearing as it was when he was semi-innocent looking..
He could have done a great cameo, though!

Posted: 6/14/11 at 7:02pmJust saw this today and like everyone else I just loved it. It's doing pretty good business for being shown in so few theaters. A simple film filled with magic and wit. Oh, and it did not cost millions of dollars and was not in 3-D. How refreshing!

Posted: 6/14/11 at 9:15pmI loved this movie so much. I started to think it was written just for me because of how much I geeked out throughout the film. Every new character--even the ones I don't like the writing of--put a big smile on my face. The use of music was wonderful.

Posted: 6/14/11 at 9:30pmI felt the same way. It was heartwarming and refreshing. I loved all the artists towards the end of the film and how everyone was ever-nostalgic. The undercover cop trapped in Versailles was hilarious.

I finally saw the film this morning and walked out of the theater with a huge smile on my face. Everything said about it is true and I can't wait to take everyone I know to go see it.
Watching it (and I never think this) I kept thinking that it could make a really terrific musical!

I'm hoping Warren Beatty has the same luck Woody has with his upcoming new movie.

I found the whole thing something of a wet noodle. Owen Wilson should stick to the kind of junk comedies for which he is renowned. He's totally out of his depth here. I liked Mimi Kennedy's dry performance. She scored the only laughs in the film.
Oh well, at least there were some nice views of Paris.
