Who's watching?

I like Utah, but the rest look kind of average to me.

Nick Jonas looks painfully uncomfortable.

Those answers were terrible!

My original picks were Connecticut and South Carolina. Utah was lucky she got 3rd runner-up as I thought she would have gotten 5th runner-up after that answer of hers. It's obvious she drew a complete blank.

It was painful to watch. I really wasn't satisfied with any of the answers.

Texas nailed her question.

I didn't have any desire to watch it. I was busy watching the NBA Finals.

Putting the possibility for a Nick Jonas joke aside, do beauty pageants hold any real relevance anymore?

...And to air it and promote it specifically as a "tie-in" to Father's Day? That's a little skeevy. Miss USA But it's Donald Trump's organization so it all makes sense. Updated On: 6/17/13 at 08:43 AM

I don't think any of the beauty pageants ever made sense but I watch them. Guilty pleasure of trash tv .

What Jane2 said! I've been watching since I was in the 6th grade.

I adore beauty pageants! Always have.

I guess it's also a cultural thing, since they're huge here in Puerto Rico. We get VERY competitive, specially with Venezuela.

Such a pity her answer was so terrible, she was the best looking of the group.

Actually, Giuliana was the best looking of the group...

Dottie, every time there's a beauty pageant, I always think of you!

I actually thought the contestants made Julianna appear "healthy" in comparison.

I only caught a few minutes while channel surfing, the only one I purposefully watch is the begining of the Ms. Universe Pageant -- I LOVE seeing what other coutries' idea of beauty is.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

They just showed Utah's answer on the View. Oh my lord. She should have just ended it with "My mother is my idol and all I want is world peace."

Aw, Jane2, how sweet!

We must be on the same page because I was saying to myself last night, I just wish someone would try in fit "world peace" into their answer. I also thought of Miss South Carolina from a few years ago.

Miss Utah really should have said, "oh f*ck it, I really screwed that answer up!"

Do these girls have any education, other than make up application?

Most do in the Miss America competition. And some do in Miss USA but it's the cheap imitator, so the expectations have to be set a little lower...

Winning a state title in either pageant system is VERY competitive. You have to be in college or have a degree to even be considered.

I attended the Miss Puerto Rico pageant last year and was surprised to find that the majority of the contestants were either law or medicine students.

Are they all on some sort of 'Beauty Scholarship'?

The fact that they have trouble forming cognitive sentences is frightening.

As someone who has been affiliated with the Miss Universe Organization in the past I have to say, the on stage questions have drastically changed over the past few years. They've gone from, "How should we handle teen pregnancy" to last night when someone was asked about the NSA scandal, War on Terrorism, LGBT rights, etc.

By all means, you should be prepared to answer ANYTHING but in the contestant's defense, you go non-stop for almost 2 months before the actual televised pageant so for any of these girls to answer anything as they are all exhausted is commendable.

I thought it would have come down to Utah and Alabama.

I'd be really surprised if the Q&A counted at all. I've been watching pageants all my life (not bragging, lol) and many times the girl with the dumbest answers wins.

I think recently since Miss USA is working overtime to differ themselves and "move ahead" of Miss America they do. Miss America as long as you have a good talent you'll win, who cares if you take care of your self physically and look good. Miss USA you hav to be pretty and educated.
