I just don't get it, maybe it's because i am from the UK but how an earth can a religion play in to TV programming? I have no issue with most religions but things like this drive me mad, especially in a country like America which so many other countries look to as a forward thinking country.

you SHOULD have a problem with islam. liberals need to STOP behaving as if it's just some kind of liberation theology. in saudi arabia and the UAE, the punishment for homosexuality is the death penalty! look this **** up, you don't have to believe me! they don't do that because americans bombed hiroshima, or because of the vietnam war, or because of the suppression of black rights. they are rich and powerful nations that do it because of their religion!

The only "dimension" I find offensive about this is that it's from Ryan Murphy, who is the worst, but is this really any surprise?
Network affiliates have a long history of preempting what they find (or what they think their viewers will find) offensive. The fact that this is a network in a heavily Mormon state and that Mormons spend big bucks to eff up the lives of gay people makes this completely and utterly shocking.
And songanddanceman, religion plays into EVERYTHING here.

Isn't this the same NBC affiliate that dropped showing the not-really raunchy NBC drama The Playboy Club last season? I am pretty sure that it is just this same NBC affiliate. I hear nothing about a Utah Fox affiliate dropping Glee or an ABC Utah affiliate dropping Modern Family. And why does this NBC affiliate never complain about Law & Order: SVU which honestly had as much raunch in an opening kill than The Playboy Club ever had?

7. Rabbi Irwin Kula, president of the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership.

My guess is that shows like Law and Order: SVU get a pass on that affiliate for a couple of reasons. One being that it is aired in the 10:00 time slot (or at least used to be, I haven't watched for a while) and thus is not in that "family" block. Two, the sex and violence on those shows are being committed by criminals and shown to be an evil act, not something that we should view as normal.

Here in the good 'ol USA, the state of Utah is 99.99% Mormon and the church practically runs the state. Even though there is supposed to be a separation.

The show looks like the biggest pile of sh*t to ever hit television, based on the ads that are supposed to make you want to watch. Most-likely it'll be gone, quickly, without the assistance of the Mormons.

I remember when HOT'L BALTIMORE was banned in various cities (including Baltimore), and BOOK OF DANIEL was yanked because of pressure from the South. It's the American way.

I don't like the premise of the show at all, but what the heck ever happened to parents being in charge of what their children are watching? If you are so very concerned with what your children see, rather than censoring the possibilities from every adult in the state, how about you pay attention? How about not using TV as a baby sitter? How about not putting a TV in your child's room? How about having desktop computers in a central location in the home where you can see what they are doing? It seems the ones harping on with, "Think of the CHILDREN!" are the ones forgetting to parent.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

Between ABC Go and On Demand, "The New Normal" will probably be the most watched show in Utah. If there's one thing those Mormons love to do, it's download and watch things they aren't supposed to want to see.

I saw a preview clip of the show. The actors looked uncomfortable and some of the dialog was misogynistic. I thought 'New Girl' was going to be terrible based on its previews, but I gave it a chance and liked it. But this show--it just feels mean.

some of us have listened, paljoey, and am horrified. why don't you tell people the rest of gomes' story? that he did not come out until 1991, when he was 49? that he remained celibate and very likely died without knowing the love of another man? that he was a registered republican and did not change until 2006, five years before his death? is that supposed to flatter organized religion? is that what you wish for the youth that happens to be gay now, a lifetime of voting against their interests and putting out videos demanding their rights only in the twilight of their lives? and why don't you tell us--was it okay for a closeted homosexual to lead the prayers at the bush and reagan administrations or not? you don't think he might have taken the occasion to at least refuse or say, "you know, what we're doing to patients with HIV is immoral"? are they responsible for the death of your friends from HIV or not?
