It seems that Barney Frank, Jack Murtha, and Nancy Pelosi are ethically challenged beyond our imagination...

From The Loft
written by Bobby Eberle

When the Democrats took over the House of Representatives, one of first statements out of the mouth of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (and other Democrats) was that this new Congress would be the “most ethical ever.” Now, it seems that they are changing their tune in their zeal to keep their pet pork projects away from the eyes of the American people.

As noted in the Washington Times, Democrat leaders in the House are reversing the work of Republicans regarding what is known as “earmark reform.” The 2006 legislation would:

allow lawmakers to vote on individual earmarks, specific funding requests attached to larger bills that often are called “pork” — a process Democrats have said they will not use as Congress considers the 12 annual spending bills.

Despite efforts by the Democrats to keep spending on pork projects hidden from public debate, House Minority Leader John Boehner and other GOP leaders are seeking to actually move Congress in a more ethical direction. Boehner introduced a resolution on Tuesday that would “force the Democratic leadership in the House to restore Republican earmark reforms enacted last year.”

In a statement released by Boehner’s office, the Republican leader notes that “Democrats, led by Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-WI), have gutted those earmark reforms this year, refusing to allow members to challenge potentially wasteful spending on the House floor and instead setting up multi-billion dollar slush funds for secret earmarks.”

Boehner said:

“The leaders of the current majority are seeking to avoid the real transparency and accountability we instituted last year. They’ve traded earmark transparency for earmark secrecy, and American taxpayers deserve better.

“The earmark process outlined yesterday by Mr. Obey is a sham. Democrats are keeping earmark requests secret until after the House has considered appropriations spending bills, preventing us from debating earmarks on the House floor and subjecting them to scrutiny. They want the House to approve massive slush funds for secret earmarks — billions of dollars for whatever Rep. Obey and his colleagues to spend as they see fit. This isn’t transparent. This isn’t accountable. It is outrageous, and Republicans are going to fight it on behalf of American taxpayers.”

The American people made it clear in the last election that they want to clear up corruption. They are sick and tired of politics as usual. This issue is a winning one for Republicans if they can stick to their guns and return to being the party of reform. Republicans have a lot

HD, they are still working hard on getting their "100 hours" legislation passed. Do you expect them to do that and work on their ethics at the same time?

Thanks.

This board is always much more pleasant when you don't post.

Too bad the block function on this site really doesn't work.

What's this? Is this an article from the Washington Times?
That pretty much says it all right there.

The Loft is a blog not affiliated with The Washington Times.

I see that no one is denying the ineffectiveness of this congress. The mainstreamers are not reporting that the congress approval rating is below Bush.

I always post a link in my political posts, so that other posters can see where I find the information I think is so interesting.

When you don't post a link, people don't trust it. They think you made it up or you altered it to fit your agenda or you're just plain lazy.

then there's very little in the way of credibility this Loft might have.

I'm sorry Pal: I've been away so long, I forgot that you are such a conformist nut. I'll try to remember to post it exactly as you post it so you will deal with the ideas presented instead of making it about YOU!

The ideas are accurate, and it was not altered.

Since when did you get so lazy about looking this up for yourself?

Actually, I am for public financing of campaigns.

Return of the equal time doctrine.

And a government that serves the people and not the special interests.

The money needs to be taken out of the process for both parties.

In part, but they left open the huge exception for the interest groups - whether it be the SwiftBoaters or the Soros, to fund their own pet projects. The "cure" merely further compromised an already messed up system.

Access to money should not be the primary trait necessary to get elected. We ask our elected officials to act as whores to the special interests (both sides) and then are surprised when they come back a little less pristine than when we first saw him/her.

There has to be a way to get the campaigns back to the people - where they belong.

And, it is not clear to me whether or not my response amuses you, but regardless, here it is.

all he's asking for is the link.....which anyone wishing to verify information would ask for.
No teacher or librarian will accept a report or paper without sources being sited, why do you think we would?

He is not making it about him. He is asking for a verifiable link to support your opinion......something you seem never willing to give. hence, the only thing we can deduce is you are, once again, playing in the toilet.

With out a link to verify your sources, it's all just crap, which HD is actually all you are....a huge piece of crap.

No one here wants to step in crap. Go away you pitiful thing....

I see that the moderators still allow name-calling by their liberal friends.

However, I can't even have one post remain on the board that disagrees with their political agenda.

No one has to post anything to conform to your rules Elephie.
