Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

this was actually a choir competition i went to today. we were watching other choirs perform and one of the choirs had these beautiful black and white dresses and about 8 were wearing anything from converse to white star slip ons. *i was embarresed for them*
Ah, cherie, won't it all be top-drawer I'll wear lipstick and rouge And I won't be so huge Why, I'll easily fit through that door I'll exude savior-faire I'll wear gowns! I'll have hair! It's my prayer to be human again

Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

My freshman year, as part of my crew requirement, I stage managed the middle school musical. Now, it's middle school, so a certain amount of unprofessionalism definitely comes with the territory. One girl, however... oh man. Even as an 8th grader, she was a diva brat, and it's only gotten worse with time - okay, so that's catty and bitchy. It's also true. Because not a lot of actual stage-managing work was necessary, I ended up doing more work as the sound assistant and backstage manager.

In being the backstage manager, one of my more unfortunate tasks was to MAKE SURE THIS GIRL WORE F*CKING KICK PANTS UNDER HER DRESSES. We had to check if she wore spandex so that her thongs wouldn't show to a MIDDLE SCHOOL audience. SHe would proclaim her own professionalism and "blah blah blah I've done 4372819789 shows" and then pull things like that and whine about how annoying it was to have us have to check on her.

She's very talented, but has the worst attitude of ANYBODY I have ever worked with.

In terms of slightly unprofessional but HILARIOUS:
-Closing night of Annie Get Your Gun: the ensemble had a break during the 2nd act ball scene. One of the dance couples decided to deliberately come in with lipstick smeared all over the guy, her dress disheveled and hair down, all sorts of crazy things to make it look like they'd hooked up. It was hilarious.
-In Comedy of Errors, the cops, during one of our scenes, we decided that while being engaged in the scene, we would try and see how subtly we could hit eachother's asses... highly unprofessional, but we were really entertained.

Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

I was in West Side Story over the summer, and became really close with our Marias (the part was double cast), Tony, Riff, Anita, Chino and Consuela. Opening night went really, really well, so we went back to the girl who played Conseula's house and ended up drinking way too much "in celebration." A few of the other cast members, besides the 8 of us, were there, as well. By about 3 AM, at least four people were throwing up, and everyone felt completely miserable. We ended up getting no sleep whatsoever. Now, we had a performance the next night, and while we were all able to squeeze in a few hours of sleep throughout the day, we were still very hung over when 7:30 PM rolled around. The assistant director found out, screamed at all of us and told us we were going to end up ruining the show. Granted, it was a very bad and unprofessional thing we did, but that performance ended up being one of the most incredible. Even the assistant director told us we should be hung over all the time!

when I was Frank in "Annie Get Your Gun" I didnt get much downtime but when I did during intromission breaked dance ON stage with the curtain down. Also that same show while me and Annie were singing "They Say that Falling in Love is Wondeful" She (her and I are good friends) slapped my butt while I was singing (not noticably so the audience didnt see) which made me crack up a bit, but I pulled it off as if I was in the moment tho everyone offstage knew what happened
and another in that same show, one girl (this REALY annoying girl in the cast) wouldnt get off the cart Annie's siblings have to wheel in during "Doin What Comes Naturally" she said "You have plenty of time! I'm sitting and resting!" even tho she didnt even go onstage yet AND they only had 3 lines to go before they had to go on.

We did "Man of La Mancha" and on the final night during curtain call, the person who played Don Quixote didn't go out for final bows. Instead, with the help of one of the techs, he got a rope, climbed down from the catwalk (or whatever it's called that shows the lights) and just kinda smiled. I played Maria in that production, and let me just say that the guy playing the Innkeeper (and most of the audience) started muttering obscenities such as "Jesus Christ! What on earth is he doing?" Did I mention that a good amount of stuff from the catwalk fell into the audience? Did I also mention that we were performing for the elderly?

In our drama department backstage, there was this couch in the woman's dressing room, and when you turned the lights off it glowed. It was common knowlage to everyone but the director that couples would have sex on that couch backstage. When we did "Noises Off", I played Dotty Otley and was forced to sit on that couch.

Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

I did this horrible play for my eighth grade theatre arts class called "We're Off To Save The Wizard". I was livid throughout the entire thing because I couldn't edit the script.

I played the lead role, Tik-Tok, a robot charactor who had lines such as "I can feel the sunlight shining off my 'tummy'".

Throughout this show I got on alot of the kids' badsides because I critiqued them alot.

So, during the show, three girls broke out in laughter while saying their lines, almost all of the actors used the prompter for almost every line and one kid tried to nonchalantly knock me off the stage...three times.

I gave up staying in character after the first scene. It was a complete failure

I told my family to stay as far away from the show as possible.

And that was why I hated middle school theatre classes- everyone took it for an easy "A", and yet I was the only one who actually got an "A"

during a production of HAIR, in the end our director blocked Claude getting shot...and he overacted. While we waited in the wings, some of the other actors and I would 'get shot' and 'die' right before our next song came on. We all thought it was hysterical--Claude never knew.

My favorite, though, was from Dracula. Our Lucy went to the bathroom and completely missed her cue in the beginning of act 3. Everyone was freaking out when Harker walked onstage and said "She's fallen asleep!" All you could hear backstage was "where the f*** is Lucy?! Where the f*** is lucy!" It wasn't so great at the time, but it's hilarious now.

From the same production of Dracula, it was blocked for Van Helsing to drink 'wine' so i mixed up some red kool-aid and for a while it was great, until Dr. Seward wanted some too so eventually, after getting tired of making so much kool-aid, i stopped putting sugar in it. That quart lasted us three shows instead of the usual one. XD

Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

This isn't the MOST unprofessional, but I did a one-act called "Snappy's Happy Half-Hour" earlier this year where I played an abusive producer who talks with a thick Jersey accent. It was a few pages before I was supposed to come in, but no one on stage knew what they were doing, and they just kind of froze, and then some kid onstage started saying, "Schmerg! Schmerg! Get out here!"

So I came onstage, but since the show was so campy, I decided it would be a good idea to say something like, "SURPRISE! I'm not supposed to come on for three more pages, but that's how I roll. Now I'm here and I'm gonna make your lives miserable three pages sooner!" or something like that. It was really unprofessional, and I regretted it after the show.

But it was a show that had basically completely shredded the fourth wall already, so it wasn't as though it was some serious character-based drama or something, and luckily, the theatre teacher and student directors thought it was funny.

This is technically after a show, but our director comes into the girls dressing room (you guessed it, our director was a man), and we're all like half dressed or in my case, only in underwear and he tells us that was the worst we ever did and he was embarrassed to have put that show on. We thought that was our 2nd to last show. The last show, however got snowed out. So, the last thing our director said to us before going back to New York City was "That was awful." Fun times...

Also, this year, same opera, the new director of our school came to watch one of the in-school performances. Now, I go to a an arts HS, but the company that funds our school also funds the math and science school...so in an effort to save money, they gave us the math and science school's director. A man who on the first day told us his art form was being an audience member. He came to the show, and five minutes later was asleep in the front row. He had to give a speech after about how good it was. He saw only the introduction music...

My school did Ragtime a few months ago (and we freakin' rocked), and during our final dress rehearsals, I guess some of my fellow Harlem People had some issues with me, and felt it was necessary to act like children and pull my hair and step on my skirt during the Prologue- which is supposed to be one of the most tension filled scenes in the show. Also, quite a few of them decided they wanted to laugh or giggle during 'Til We Reach That Day (my song since I played Sarah's Friend, and a funeral scene). Thank God they got their act together by opening night.

And I've never witnessed this one, but two years ago, when my school did Bat Boy, this girl had a short solo in which she had to sing about three lines without the accompaniment. Apparently, one night, she started singing in the wrong key, and instead of going along with it, and letting the orchestra catch up, she BURSTS OUT CRYING AND RUNS OFF STAGE. Wow.

during my sophomore in h.s. we did bye bye birdie. during one dance break out choreographer taught us this move that made us sorta look like chickens and so to remember it every time he'd say "chicken, chicken!". well, during our very last performance, the seniors thought it would be funny to say "chicken, chicken!" during the dance break when we did that chicken move. our director thought it was not funny what so ever.

My high school did Godspell a few years back. And everyone was on stage the whole time. This one girl cannot go that long without eating. So during the passing of the bread scene, she would take handfuls of bread and stuff them into her mouth, she looked like a beaver or something.

Also, same production, they forgot to put out the bread for that scene, and the techie in charge of props freaked out, she grabed the bread and went on stage in the middle of a performance, not even in all blacks, but into the middle of the stage and set it down on a table, then looked up and realized the entire audience could see her. Then stood there looking at them for about 10 seconds, then disappeared...I was so mad.

Also, in another production, they were performing for a very important/big critique audience(probably one of the biggest you can get) And the lead girl was not on good terms with one of the boys whom she happened to have to kiss. So before her big scene with him, where they sit for a long time talking very closely, she ate a bunch of Doritos and kept making sure he could smell her breath. And this was encouraged by everyone she told, a bunch of the cast members, because no one liked him very much...lol

I saw West Side Story done by a community theatre and apparently people had messed with some of the props because in the final scene, Maria was holding not a gun, but a knife up. As she started saying her lines I think she realized why the knife would be a bad idea...

"How many stabs are left in this knife, Chino?" Haha! Very funny!

Also I don't remember the show, but during a scene where one person kills another, he couldn't find his weapon so he brought on a random boot and threw it at his victim while screaming "Poisonous Boot!"

MusicAddict, I laughed aloud at the Poisonous Boot!

Haha! Every year at Christmastime, our chorus sings "Hallelujah." And our old director from two years ago used to direct us, as "Haaaa-llelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah... *REST REST*... Ha-lle-lu-jaaaaah!" We'd always say 'rest rest' at rehearsals along with the director. This year, we have a new director, and when we all said, "rest rest," she was rather... alarmed.

During a production of Blood Wedding at my college (One of the best theatre schools in GA, Columbus State University) One of my friends at the time was attached to his cell phone. A little too much. SO much so in fact that he carried it with him ON HIS COSTUME (1930s period costume) And it went off while he was in the wings. Needless to say, the theatre faculty didn't hold him in too high regard after that. He did things like that all the time and was eventually kicked out of the program.

In a production of Music Man I'm currently apart of, our Gracie decided that to test to see whether her mic was on before the gym scene that she would scream into it. Needless to say it was on and caused a few children in the audience to begin crying.

When I was stage manager for The Illusion (bad idea over all) We were in the black box so we could not see the stage from the booth, so we had a monitor to watch the show. Once our cue to start the magic was this girl lifting her leg during a kiss and every time the kiss came the sound guy would zoom in on the kiss. It got to the point that if I knew it was coming I would climb to the edge of the booth to be able to see and give the cue.

when I was in Annie Get Your Gun the guy who played Frank forgot the exact order of the things he can do better than Annie in "Anything You Can Do" during the INTERMEDIATE school performance (we just performed for little kids) and he let out a few choice words by accident.. it was bad.
