re: Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

I was in CATS and Aladdin Jr. (for the kiddies) last summer at Seaside Music Theater and the show Royal Family was also in the season. One of the cast members in Royal Family and Aladdin was horrible. Other than talking back to the director for Aladdin during notes, I heard of a day he wasn't feeling well during the day of one of the Royal Fam shows. He walked into the theatre, signed in on the call board, and then LEFT and didn't tell ANYONE. They had to put someone else on at last minute when they found out he wasn't there.

My school put on The Clumsy Custard Horror Show (most people will have NO CLUE what that is... lol) And I was the Princess. The girl who played the dismembered head (once again, you have to see the show...) came in 10 minutes before the curtain came up smelling like weed. The director smelled it to, and suddenly yelled, "Ok! Who smoked pot?!" he then looked at the kid who played "The Director" who had like, 2 lines before he was eaten by the custard and raised an eyebrow... It was pretty terrible... Oh! And during another show, a Company of Wayward Saints where I was Isabella, my friend Will who played Scapino was walking around outside of the theatre in his underwear once he was offstage... Lotsa fun stuff at my school...

^ OH MY GOD I WAS IN THAT SHOW... The Clumsy Custard Horror Show. When I was eleven. It was the first theatre thing I ever did... I played one of the evil twins. I have NEVER seen it mentioned anywhere else!! Just had to say that. re: Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

During alot of show's I've been in, people would start to mess around with the props and the people who had to use them could never find them. Also during the notes we were bing given someone's mike was still on and she started basicly cursing him out so you can imagine how that went. And I CAN"T stand it when people go on stage chomping on their gum. *dies*

re: Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

I was in a show last summer at Cappies National Theatre in Washington DC. We were performing our musical, a new one called "The Yellow Wood"...well, we hadn't really rehearsed this one short song very extensively at all, so we didn't really know it or when to come in on it or anything. But we would have done fine on our own. We're big kids. Anyway, during our first performance of the show, the musical director/pianist starts SINGING LOUDLY with us. If she were behind the scrim or something, that would have been fine. Backstage, you know...but, NOPE, she was right in front of the audience! I was horrified.

And THAT'S why I tell people that CNT isn't like some huge professional thing to be all hyped up about. Yeah, it's fun...but...

When people weren't in scenes they'd go (in full makeup, hair, and costume) to the restaurant across the street to get ice cream or milkshakes. Are you kidding me? Are you trying to ruin your voice? It's my favorite restaurant but I never eat there when I have a show because the kind of food they serve would affect my voice. I have what I call my "show diet." No dairy, i've given up soda for good, no chocolate, no fast food and other greasy foods, and lots and lots of water.

During Into the Woods people would go out into the audience and be on their cell phones backstage. The sound system would pick up a lot of feedback because of that.

I have another thing I did that was unprofessional. During dress rehersal a group of girls and I would run back and forth between the choir room and our theatre. In the choir room we would watch the RENT movie (this was just after it was released on DVD) It wasn't during a performance, but it was still unprofessional

re: Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

There was a big incident during one show where there were a few young kids in the cast and usually someone would bring in a portable dvd player and play it in the dressing room. It usually didnt bother anyone and they would have the volume turned down. They would usually watch movies that were family friendly but one day someone put in Cruel Intentions and some people got really mad because they were letting the young kids watch it too.

During the production of "Aladdin Jr." I was in, there were five narrators. Well, three of them didn't show up one night and my friend and I had to cover the whooole show. Needless to say, the director never casted them again!

Another,
During my BIG RIVER tech last night someone forgot to set the pole they use to "paddle" the raft down the river. Well, Huck didn't have it of course and changed his line to "Shove her off and I paddle with that pole Jim, where ever it is". Well, we have this Brittish guy in the cast who has to be in his 70s who plays Harvey Wilkes whos always drinking wine from a coffee mug and what not. We had a ton of people there for this rehearsal for pictures for the local news and what not, and here comes the Brittish guy with the pole in his hand and hands it to Huck. The director shook his head, but most of us thought it was pretty funny!

when i was a freshman we did grease and one of the greasers missed his cue delaying the scene for 30 seconds because he was making out with his girlfriend back stage and did't even know the show had started....

and then when i was sky in guys and dolls this year during the mission scene where sarah hands sky the phamplets from her desk the tech crew had put hand cuffs and condoms in the desk. needless to say we almost lost it but the audience couldn't tell. it is fun to watch our faces on the dvd though

re: Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

I stumbled on the actor playing Hamlet doing coke during intermission. He got all flustered and offered me a line and I ... declined of course. This was a full Equity actor, mind you and he was actually quite amazing that night, but dang ...

re: Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

We Had a completely unproffesional performance of The Voice of the prairie. It was our UIL show, but we performed it once for and actual audiance, and because it was the most stressful show weve ever done, the actors decided to have fun. The unzipped their pants before going on stage, whispered very sexual things to David as he was frozen from offstage, The newspaper man who was supposed to be offstage ran on stage, did a pirouette, and ran off. And he came on again in place of an extra and kissed his onstage girlfriend, but he is very very flamboyant.

We couldn't do evening of scenes because of it.

re: Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

How about too numerous to mention . . . all the unprofessional behavior I've seen, heard about and once or twice participated in. Yet, sometimes, we call it something different -- like "closing night pranks", really.

I did see the Broadway touring cast of "Annie", in my home town of Phoenix, AZ (when I was in high school). The little Broadway actresses, playing the orphans, during "Maybe" were breaking the fourth wall and talking about and pointing to us, in the audience!!!

Community Theatre -- Closing night of "My Fair Lady" we wanted to 'break up' the actor playing Mr. Higgins (he never broke character, never). Thus, as his various servants, we have a scene where we all shake hands with him. Each and everyone of us had something wet, goo-ey, cold or gross in our hands. Some of this crap dripped onto the stage and the audience definitely saw it. We did manage to break him up when some had a lubricated condom filled with sand and covered in honey shake his hand!

We were doing "Chicago" . . . one of the other Merry Murderesses, during the 'He Had It Coming' number, BIT another Merry Murderess in the leg!!! Drew blood and caused a bad bruise and the actress had to get a tetanus shot. The Bitress (let's call her) said she "was so into character" she felt the need to take a bite out of her cellmate. We all lectured her about professionalism, even if you are "in character"!

I mean, geez, what is the damn theatre is on fire? Are you going to be "too into character" to leave?!

During "My Fair Lady" we also had a 'dirty old man' in the cast. During 'Ascot' he would run his hand up our dresses and touch our butts, inner thighs and such and come thisclose to our crotches. He did this when we were FROZEN and facing the audience; thus, the audience had no clue and his wife (on stage) was so blind without her glasses, she didn't know either. Finally, tired of the creepy feeling of his hands aiming to touch my crotch -- as I turned, toward him (with my back to the audience) -- I stragetically covered his crotch with me and my dress and grabbed his crotch and squeezed as hard as I could, grinning at him (mind you, the audience could not see my face)! As his face reddened and he fought to stay upright; he stopped groping us women during the show; due to my revenge!

Unprofessional . . .perhaps; but, a girl has to do what a girl has to do!

I did Footloose this past year and during "Let's Hear it for the boy" (First major dance in act II), there was a part where we all hit the floor. A girl who had missed her cue walked on right when we all went down. Of course, we were filming that day so you see her do it too...

re: Most Unprofessional Thing You've Ever Witnessed During a Performance?

Well I wasn't in this play, but in my Community Theater's production of Footloose, they had a full house of these little asian kids. There were, like, three to a seat because they were so small. In the beginning they were all entertained, but by the middle, all of them were playing on their damn gameboys or whatever. So obviously they made noises like "beep" and "boop" and "game over". Then my friend on stage muttered "game over" and the entire stage just busted up in laughter. It's more hilarious than unprofessional.
