They upset me for two different reasons though.

I start crying the second LADY AND THE TRAMP starts
I finally saw schindler's list for the first time the other week in history class, I was the only one sobbing and was so embarrassed.

Amistad
Last King Of Scotland (well, I SAY I can't watch it again but I might be lying - I wouldn't mind renting it to watch those performances again!)
American History X (same as above)
They just tear me apart, but there are a lot of upsetting movies that I haven't seen yet. I agree with RobbO though - I like seeing upsetting movies. I'd rather watch a movie that moves me than some dumb fluff that's out there.

I could watch AMERICAN HISTORY X over, and over, and over again.
Except that one scene.. you know, the one with the curb, and the teeth.. yeah, that one. I've only watched that scene once.

My vote goes to Requiem for a Dream. It's not that I *can't* watch it-it's extremely difficult to watch, but it's a very well made and important film.
I've seen it a few times already, but still can't move for a while after it's over. It's that shocking.

Posted: 4/26/07 at 12:22amI've never seen it. I heard it's great, though.

I've yet to see Requiem For A Dream all the way through simply because I found it so draining and haven't been able to devote the proper time to watch it and get the full impact. But it's on my list!
And ABSteel, that one scene is what I find so upsetting. Ugh. UGH. It kills me even though it's not graphic - what's left to your imagination is what eats at you.

Exactly. Even though you don't see anything, the sounds and my imagination are everything. I saw one of my friend's break his wrist once and I remember what that sounds like.
Ugh. UGH.

Million Dollar Baby. Good God, talk about a seriously depressing movie.
I also can't bring myself to watch United 93 or World Trade Center. I don't see myself seeing them any time soon, either.

I don't even care to watch the 9/11 movies. Seeing it for real was depressing enough.
Oh, I haven't seen MILLION DOLLAR BABY either.

Posted: 4/26/07 at 1:07amLeaving Las Vegas always leaves me a bit off afterwards....but Sometimes in April and Hotel Rwanda truly leave me reeling every time. It's not like I haven't read every story and book, seen every documentary produced dating back to April 1994, but it still gets to me every time.

Posted: 4/26/07 at 1:11amI saw HOTEL RWANDA in the theater, and I bought it the day it came out. Don Cheadle gave the best performance I've ever seen. Don and Sophie should've won. They were so robbed.

ABS-- Yep, he was fabulous and oh so robbed. However I personally prefer to use Sometimes in April as an educational resource.
Others that move me to tears and can only watch every couple years:
Dead Poet's Society -- "O Captain, my captain" on the desk breaks my heart every time.

I saw THE DEER HUNTER when it came out, almost 30 years ago. I can still remember almost all of the scenes and the brilliant performances in that film even though I never saw it again. I remember leaving Cinema One and going into the Subway to head home to Astoria, in a fog. Brilliant movie - no desire to see it again.
For very different reasons, there are two other movies that are too upsetting to watch but that's just because they fuc*ed them up so badly and they are THE WIZ and A CHORUS LINE.

Jane, I agree! Ellen Burstyn broke my heart. I wish she had won the Oscar that year.
Another good movie with a great performance (Ryan Gosling) I was never able to view again was The Believer. The subject matter was too hard to take.

Henry- Portrait of a Serial Killer
The Last House on the Left
Mother's Day
and The Hills Have Eyes (1977)
After watching these I was left so disturbed I don't think I could ever watch them again, they were really frightening, although only Henry would be considered a good film in my books and the rest were crap, but disturbing none-the-less.
Also, I don't know if I could watch Terms of Endearment again, the first time I watched it, the waterworks poured for nearly 10 minutes. I don't think I'd want to go through that again.

Posted: 4/26/07 at 9:31amI've seen all of David Fincher's movies, but I've only seen them once. And I'm a repeat movie addict. His movies are really well made, but exhausting and disturbing in a way that eats at me after they're over.

I will never get over the travesty of how she was robbed of that oscar-by Julia Roberts.
I think Burstyn's performance was one of the best I've ever seen on screen. Maybe THE best.
