If ever we needed a little Christmas right this very minute, it’s now. Whose holiday albums are you looking forward to this year? If you’ve already had a listen, what did you think?
Two mentioned in other threads ... If the Fates Allow: A Hadestown Holiday Album and Leslie Odom Jr’s The Christmas Album.

I'm moderately obsessed with "Silent Night Deadly Night," the 1984 Christmas slasher/parody of slashers/satire on religious fundamentalism/pseudo-musical. The movie is underscored with an avant-garde keyboard score, but then these SONGS come out of nowhere, sometimes just montage fuel but often plot-significant songs that comment on the action or are actively sung or discussed by the characters. And they're one third sincere and two thirds absurd or tongue in cheek. For instance, this song plays over a montage of the protagonist working at an incredibly charming 1980s toy shop while overcoming his fear of Christmas (gained when he saw Santa Claus rape and murder his entire family).

The Fates' CD makes for great holiday cocktail party music.

In the 10 years since this thread started, a great thing that's available now are the many, many playlists that the online music services offer. There are lists for every taste!
I've discovered a song this year that, even though it's been around since 1959, I'd never been aware of it before. It is THE SECRET OF CHRISTMAS. I stumbled on it this Summer and it's become one of my favorites. The versions I love best are those covered by Ella Fitzgerald and Bing Crosby. Many other artists have recorded it, including Johnny Mathis, Julie Andrews, Susannah McCorkle, Shirley Horn and more...but the versions by Bing and Ella really hit a nerve for me.
