to bring this back on topic (sorry guys) - I do think it's inappropriate (as Iflit noted) to use credentials or titles as a means to try and get favors. And in an emergency(?) sitatuation like this one, even more so. I hardly think having to be on time to see RENT is something the police would care about if such an incident were taking place (netting crowds). And that's not a knock on law enforcement at all, but clearly if they were dealing with protesters, possible riots or whatever, "I'm going to be late to a show" wouldn't exactly make them all form a processional for someone..

You guys think it's tough in New York? Try living in DC. All I wanted to do was go to McDonalds for breakfast today but the police were blocking it off. I tried showing them my bus pass but they pulled out their stun gun and shocked me. All I wanted was a frickin' McGriddle!
