Has anyone seen this film? I bought it today on a whim and am happy to say that it is a brillant and beautiful film. Emma Thompson shines as Nanny McPhee and the variety of characteristics she brings to the role is ashtonishing. The fact that she also wrote the screenplay is a testament to her talent. Any other thoughts on the film?

PS. Why hasn't she graced the stage, West End or Broadway with her presence?

I haven't seen it yet, but I've loved Emma Thompson in everything else.

She does have a few UK stage credits, including playing Sally in the hit London revival of Me and My Girl with Robert Lindsay. You can hear her on that production's cast album, although her vocals are a bit alarming.

I love Robert Lindsay.

The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

Thanks for the head's up. I checked on ibdb.com for any credits and nothing came up so I assumed it covered everything.

an amazing movie

Yes! Her line readings are dead-on.

I have to say, at the very end of the movie, when she makes it snow and is with Evangeline, she is the prettiest there than I have even seen her. and her smile there is so natural. so gorgeous.

I haven't seen her in this movie, but she was brilliant in Stranger than Fiction.

She is one of those performers who never seems to put her foot wrong. I really can't think of a poor or even mediocre performance she has given. Back in the day when Branagh had the Renaissance Theatre Co she played the Fool in King Lear. A very different but truly remarkable take on the role. I felt priveleged to have seen her work.

I wish she would write more screenplays as well. It took forever for her up Sense and Sensibility with this. Both delightful, yet different.
