Ya know...it's interesting. My mom says this a lot. She's incredibly supportive, but every time the topic comes up (people always seem to call her when their kids come out...it's bizarre), she always says, 'But who in their right mind would choose to be gay??'
And I haven't found the strength to tell her, 'I would.'
I love everything about this life I've lead. The wonderful, the awful, the tragic, the beautiful. Yes...that's hindsight talking. But I would certainly choose to live this life again.

I know I, and a lot of gay people I know, don't feel like we had a choice in the matter, but it should be noted that even if someone feels they DID choose to be gay, that doesn't invalidate how they identify and shouldn't have a bearing on the rights that gay people are trying to achieve for themselves. Choice or not, until the Right can mobilize and make the behavior illegal, it doesn't/shouldn't matter.

Robbie, youre lucky. A friend of mine was practically disowned when he came out... thank goodness he was able to move in with his older sister. they finally came around... about a year later, but its kinda like "dont ask dont tell" at his house

I know I didnt choose to be gay and that it was an awful thing to accept for me, in the 70s, and I wished at the time that I didnt have to, but I did.
Now, I would never take a pill to be straight, and I love my life and who I am.
But, it didn't start out that way.
I have wondered, if I wasnt gay, what kind of straight guy would I be, and how bigoted, and without me in their lives, how would my family and friends behave?

If straight means sitting in front of a TV with the remote control in your hand all night or sitting glued to the TV during "the game" or grilling smoked meats to with an inch of recognition or saying "mmmm, tasty" every time another morsel is shoveled into my mouth, I prefer to be gay.

Honestly, I would have changed it when I first realized I was. I hated it. I hated falling in love with my best friends as they were discovering boys. I HATED being different. I felt for many years like my life would be so much easier if I had been totally straight. I more identify as bisexual, but the emotional thing for me was ALWAYS women. I felt like I couldn't fall in love with a man because I was only emotionally attracted to women. Now, after years of hating it and finally coming to love myself, I wouldn't change a damn thing. I have the most spectacular wife on the planet. We're having a baby. I live in an awesome country.
For those who feel they had a choice in and made a choice, they should be allowed to shout it and be proud of it. If I had felt like I had a choice in the matter I don't think that should mean I am less accepted by others. It is what it is. I am so tired of this argument.

I don't hear heterosexuals constantly trying to prove they were "born this way!!" Why do we have to constantly tell people, "this isn't a choice, I was born gay."
Whether I was born this way or not, why do I have to justify it?? So the **** what if I choose to be gay. If it's a choice, I'm an adult in a relationship with another consenting adult ... so, who cares??

Well, gay men are the only ones who I know can enjoy some meat enough to say mmm tasty with each morsel. (0kay that was the double entendre part) Straights just shovel it in, whatever it is.(haha, that's also a double entendre).
