What's up with The History Boys, The Devil Wears Prada, and Blood Diamond, but no The Queen, Dreamgirls, Little Children, The Good German, The Good Shepherd???
But congrats to Catherine O'Hara!!!
I'm surprised by some of the films included and left out, but I'm happy they included ...Prada, which I think is a much better film than most people give it credit for.
I thought it was a fine, fun movie with a great performance by Streep, but I never would have considered it as a Top Ten-type contender...Sure, maybe a Musical/Comedy nomination at the Globes. And I'm really quite surprised that Letters From Iwo Jima got the top pick here. Honestly, I hadn't even heard it was officially bumped up for release for this season!!
PRADA was a bunch of crap. National Board Of Review is only slightly more reliable than the Golden Globes. They gave an acting award to Uma Thurman for HENRY AND JUNE, for God's sake!
I thought PRADA was a fine, delightful comedy with a brilliant performance.
Prada was ruined with an AWFUL soundtrack

Mabel - didn't they give THE QUEEN's Mirren best actress?
Yes, they did DG (and Hudson shared Breakthrough Female) but I was talking about the Top 10 films only, not the rest of the awards. I know this isn't necessarily an indication of things to come, but I've been under the impression that The Queen had some pretty strong buzz for a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars, so I was rather surprised not to see it even make the Top 10 here.
Helen Mirren is a virtual shoo-in for every Best Actress award this year. Rightfully so.
