Posted: 9/19/14 at 3:06pmIs anyone looking forward to any new shows this fall? I'm excited about Gracepoint on Fox, Marry Me on NBC, and How to get Away with Murder on ABC.

I'm looking forward to How to get Away with Murder too, there is huge drama today with the writer who reviewed the show at the New York Times. She literally starts the article with "When Shonda Rhimes writes her autobiography, it should be called “How to Get Away With Being an Angry Black Woman.” Repugnant.
GROSS

That POV of that article seems to have flown right over your head.
From the same piece, which you deem "repugnant":
"And what is most admirable about Ms. Rhimes’s achievement is that in a business that is still run by note-giving, nit-picking, compromise-seeking network executives, her work is mercifully free of uplifting role models, parables and moral teachings."

Just so we're clear, Stanley is saying that Shonda Rhimes has made a racist stereotype enviable. A lot of people are incredibly upset, including Shonda herself, about that bull**** article. So no, nothing flew over my head. Everything that got said after that statement is irrelevant.

That article is terrible, she called Viola Davis "less classically beautiful".
Damn.

I'm hesitantly interested in How To Get Away With Murder. I adore Viola Davis, but Shonda Rhimes' shows make me roll my eyes a million times a minute. NBC has some great comedies this year. Its great to have all 6 of the Happy Endings cast back on TV
EDIT: I forget to add Red Band Society. I heard the pilot was great, even though it got bad ratings. I'll have to check it out this week.

All six of them are back on TV? I just thought Casey, Damon, and Adam were back. That is great news. Or, as Penny would say "A-MAH-ZING!"
Yes, I really enjoyed Red Band Society despite its poor ratings and pretty bad reviews. But, it's Fox, so I'm sure they will find a way to screw it up. I still miss Kitchen Confidential
Audra McDonald just responded to that terrible NY Times article on Twitter: "So offended by @nytimes REDUCING @shondarhimes 1 of the most powerful, brilliant, successful, & creative women in TV to a racial stereotype." Indeed.

Jesus Christ. Nearly every single show discussed sounds dreadful. Are we exiting TV's second golden age? I can't wait for Mad Men and The Fall to return.

I was pleasantly surprised by and will keep watching THE MYSTERIES OF LAURA with Debra Messing.
I am looking forward to MADAME SECRETARY. I'm just wondering if DVRing will be easier or harder since it precedes THE GOOD WIFE and that always gets screwed up due to Football /60 Minutes running long.

Posted: 9/20/14 at 4:31amI'm calling bull**** on that one, Namo. At least when it comes to television dramas. Sure, there's never been more garbage, more easily available, but that's inevitable when there are 100s of channels on cable, satellite and online. But can you really point to a period prior to the early 2000s in which there was such a concentration of well written and produced tv dramas?

I can't wait for How to Get Away With Murder. Didn't care too much for the 1st episode of Red Band Society.
Am curious to see what people think about Selfie. I saw the pilot and felt stupider after watching it. But, I've been hearing that people actually liked it. So now I'm worried that I just have bad taste. Because I didn't like The Blacklist last year.

So far
Selfie is beyond terrible, I didn't laugh once, I predict this will be gone soon.
Black-Ish, pretty lousy, some how manages to feel dated in subject and kinda racist, Lawrence Fishburne is good in it but deserves better.
A to Z, quite sweet and charming, likeable leads, looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Mysteries of Laura, hmmm, odd show, Messing is great but the show has no idea what it is, it's supposed to be a fun light detective show yet don't work as a detective show and the light is so featherweight. Again feels dated (a woman having a job and kids....wow).
Red Band Society, I enjoyed this, it needs to build the characters far more but that will come, the cast are great and the concept works for pulling at the heart strings and finding humor. It was The Breakfast Club in a hospital, not a bad thing. I fear with it's low ratings it won't stick around, that's a shame because out of the ones named above it's by far the one with the most promise.
Overall this new season seems like it will be rather uninspiring just like last year where most of the shows got the axe

I await the beginning of Season 2 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
And because I have no interest in hour-long tales of collapsing white male hierarchies, being they among advertising execs or mobsters or drug manufacturers, I can not give a crap about this so called Golden Age 2. I know these stories reflect the anxieties of the aging dinosaurs who created them, but I cannot wait for them to be gone.

^^ Not a new Fall show.
I watched Mysteries of Laura, and it was cute but it needs to decided what kind of show it wants to be, it seemed to be all over the place. A to Z looks great, but I don't know the longevity of the thing.

I was thinking smart readers would deduce that none of the new Fall shows described in this thread interested me, but I guess I should have spelled it out.
And the network needs to stop trying to make Cousin Debbie happen.
